Booking through Viator was so easy, even for a not so tech savvy senior. Confirmation & tickets arrived within minutes and we saved money by booking through Viator.

Fabulous trip, with great commentary. Passengers shared their experiences and a lot of fun was had. Views were magnificent as was the history feedback. Only negative, viewing platform could have been larger as few passengers wouldn't share their space.

The train trip itself was enjoyable, however, unfortunately our on board commentator did not speak good English. EXTREMELY disappointing!!! The script sounded unrehearsed and was spoken in broken English, making it difficult to understand let alone comprehend. For the ticket price, very disappointing indeed!!!

It is an interesting journey thru different landscapes.I thought with the on board commentary they kept passengers informed very well regarding the history. The early pioneers certainly worked hard to create the railway.

Absolutely brilliant. A five-hour trip but it went by so quickly. We were lucky that there weren’t many people so we could move around. For a long time we had the viewing cabin to ourselves! Staff were great and the commentary really interesting. Well worth the money.

The commentating seemed to take ages to say the info because of all the fumbling and pausing but did have a nice voice to listen too, and some of the info was interesting. The bugging out by a train man about people climbing down instead of the ramp at Hinton was weird it should be a choice, yet it was fine to climb down once back at the station? It was great to be able to go outside on the platform for fresh air, better views and to get away from the crowd was a small hike to get there, 4 carriages to go through. Ticket man was super and one lot of neighbours were friendly saw some pigs with lots of piglets and saw about 7 goats

Our return train trip through the stunning and picturesque Taieri Gorge was a highlight of our Dunedin stay. You learn about the engineering of our early railway pioneers, the many hand dug tunnels and the difficult conditions these trailblazers faced. The food on board was also exceptional. The only minor negative was that the return trip felt a little repetitive as much of the gorge and plain scenery looked similar. However the onboard commentator was top-notch, sharing engaging anecdotes, facts, and figures that brought the landscape and early settler times to life. His knowledge made the journey fascinating and we learned so much about the region's history and geology. Overall, a great experience. It’s so important to remember our history to help us understand our cultural heritage and traditions which shaped our identity

From when we booked at the Dunedin railway station to when we returned later the same afternoon, the whole experience was everything we could have wanted. Alice who was on the ticket counter went out of her way to ensure that everything was as it should be. Thank you Alice for a wonderful experience.

The Taieri Gorge Railway Journey was the standout highlight of our recent trip to Dunedin from Australia. Breath-taking scenery, excellent service and great story-telling along the way. The staff were friendly and informative and obviously took great pleasure in providing this world-class adventure. Chatting to other passengers (both local and international), we learnt that many have made this journey several times and it's not hard to see why. Of all the sightseeing we have done in multiple trips to Dunedin this is our #1 pick and should be yours as well. Well done to Dunedin City Council for providing this fantastic service and congratulations to everyone we met at Dunedin Railways. Donna and Brian Queensland
