5.00We did the return trip today on the Taieri Gorge Scenic Railway operated by Dunedin Railways. The journey commences at the iconic Dunedin Railway Station and follows the Taieri river & Gorge to Pukerangi, some 69 km away. Travelling through numerous tunnels and access inspiring viaducts, the scenery is wonderful. On reaching Pukerangi passengers are encouraged to swap seats with those across the aisle from them so that everyone onboard enjoys every view possible. Along the was there is a great live commentary and, depending on conditions, may be able to exit the train at Deep Springs Viaduct. We did today and you walk across this amazing curved structure to then Watch & photograph the train crossing, before reboarding and continuing the journey. Leaving the iconic Dunedin Railway Station the train follows the Taieri River & Gorge 69km to Pukerangi.

3.00Seat given was on A side. Not much to see when seating on this side of the train as all the good views and interesting sites were on the left side. Coming back was the same. Suggest to exchange seats on return journey so that all can experience the views.

5.00A pleasant 5 hour trip with good commentary. Views of the gorge were good. Food on the train but no food at the destination.

2.00My friend and I would definitely ask for a child free seating arrangement if we did this trip again. Being stuck for 5 hours in an unexpected seating arrangement with a family of 6 was not our idea of fun Especially as toddlers became tired and fractious before we even got to the turnaround. Crying toddlers take the gloss off any pleasure for others. Val
