Metekhi Cathedral
Virgin Mary Metekhi church is located on the left bank of the river Mtkvari, on the cliff plateau. The first church on this place was probably built by Vakhtang Gorgasali, symbolically resembling the church built on virgin Mary’s tomb in Gethsemane garden in Jerusalem. According to the legend, the former catholicos Kirion transferred the saint Shushanik to this church in the 7th century.

5.00The walking tour was a perfect introduction to the city. All the must-see highlights, the incredible eclectic mix that Tbilisi is, and some yummy Georgian snacking. The cherry on the cake was the guide Saba: professional, perfect clear English, and a fab sense of humour!

5.00I had a wonderful experience on the Tbilisi walking tour with Ellie. This is a great tour for anyone visiting Georgia for the first time, as it gives you a really helpful introduction to Tbilisi, Georgian history, culture, architecture, and local life. The tour lasts around half a day, which felt like the perfect amount of time. Ellie was a fantastic guide: knowledgeable, warm, engaging, and very easy to spend time with. She explained everything clearly and made the city feel much more accessible and meaningful. I would definitely recommend this tour as one of the first things to do when arriving in Tbilisi. It is a great “Georgia and Tbilisi 101” and helped me appreciate the rest of my trip much more.

5.00We had a great experience on this Tbilisi city tour. In just four hours, you get a very nice and clear overview of Tbilisi, visiting all the main spots included in the itinerary. It was the perfect introduction to the city and also provided interesting insights into Georgia’s history and culture. Our guide, Tako, was excellent. She was very knowledgeable about the city and shared many interesting facts, local customs, and useful tips throughout the tour. Her explanations made the experience much more engaging and helped us better understand both the city and the country. Overall, this tour is a great way to see the highlights of Tbilisi in a short amount of time. Highly recommended!
