Gokyo Valley Trek is a fine alternative to the Everest Base Camp Trek which climbs the valley to the west of Everest to the village of Gokyo and five sacred lakes on the moraine beside the Ngozumpa Glacier. The trail follows the Dudhkoshi River to its source – a series of emerald green lakes. Gokyo is a Sherpa village that lies besides the largest of these lakes. From Gokyo we climb to Gokyo Ri (5360m) for a heart stopping view over Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Makalu, Cholatse and Taboche.
As Everest Base Camp Trek has Kala Patthar at an elevation of 5545m , Gokyo Valley Trek has Gokyo Ri at an elevation of 5360m on the north side of Dudh Pokhari which is an epic vantage point , offering the kind of view over Everest that is normally reserved for balloonists or mountaineers.

Kathmandu
After breakfast we depart the hotel for a full-day guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, the “city of glory.” We visit Durbar (Palace) Square, the epicenter of religious and cultural life, an area filled with old temples and historical significance with old glorious Newari architecture. Some of the sights include Kal Bhairav, Hanuman Dhoka, Taleju Temple, Kasthamandap and Kumari Ghar; home to the Living Goddess. Afterwards we visit Swoyambhunath Stupa, said to be one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in the world, which is majestically set high on a hill overlooking Kathmandu Valley. We proceed towards Pashupatinath Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This massive temple complex sits alongside the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Only Hindus are allowed to enter the courtyard of the temple, whereas tourists can see the temple from the eastern side of the Bagmati River. Later we visit Boudhanath, a Buddhist Stupa said to be one of the largest in the world. This massive structure stands tall with four pairs of eyes each facing the four cardinal directions, watching for righteous behavior of mankind and for human prosperity. Welcome dinner in the evening. Meals: Breakfast, Welcome Dinner.

Namche Bazaar
Heading for the Namche Bazar, we cross through the hamlet of Zamphute and Tok Tok to see dazzling Thamserku glistening in the sun that stays all the way with us in most of our trek. Passing through the scenic Sherpa villages of Benkar, Chumoa and Monjo, we reach Utche Choling Gompa on a bluff abutting the Dudhkoshi river and further we make our way between the bluff to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO declared world heritage site. Completing halfway to Namche Bazar, we head for the second half of the march that would likely to take more time due to steep climb at the end. Crossing through the last village of Jorsale, a steep stepped path leads us to an amazing high bridge over the Dudhkoshi River gorge and just before this bridge, the Dudhkoshi is met by its tributary, the BhoteKoshi. Beginning the final steps uphill slowly we reach heights of Namche from where we can have first look at Mt. Everest, peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge and finally after about 1.5km/0.9mile) we reach Namche Bazar. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

I contacted Sujan online a year ago, and I thank him a lot for the trekking. Pro company, super attentive Sujan, guide Samijan and porter Sitaram a pass. Thank you for making possible the dream of reaching Ama Dablam Base Camp and my first 50,000 to Gokyo Ri. I definitely recommend hiring a Trek with them. A hug!

My dad and I took a trip to Gokyo Valley (Gokyo Ri) with Sujan’s company, and we enjoyed every minute of it. He always replied incredibly fast and had an answer to all our countless questions. We felt very welcome when we arrived in Nepal; from the nice little welcome gift to the dinner together on our first evening, it was all very well organized and enjoyable. We were very grateful for their flexibility, as we changed our plans from EBC to Gokyo on fairly short notice, and it was no problem at all. Overall, we will definitely recommend the company to friends and family. The price-value ratio is absolutely fair, and all the people we were in touch with, like our guide, porter, and Sujan, were incredibly friendly and took good care of us. Thank you so much for all these amazing memories we will take back home!

We spent a few weeks trekking in Nepal with the Alpine Club of Himalaya and it was all we had hoped. It was well organized from beginning to end and we had daily communication with Sujan. The guide was excellent and experienced and the views were amazing. We were concerned about acclimatization, but our guide was knowledgeable and made sure we ascended appropriately and we had no issues even as far as 17500 ft. We are already planning our next trip. We strongly recommend Sujan and the Alpine Club of Himalaya.

Actually we went to Gokyo, Cho La Pass and Everest Base Camp Trek from Oct 7-23. This trek is more technically advanced than some of the other treks in the area – and therefore more adventurous! This is a stunning trek for those with stamina and a sense of adventure. But our guide and porters were very experienced, patient and helpful. This trek certainly has its challenges such as long and strenuous walking days but the rewards more than make up for it in terms of personal achievement and a unique album of glorious photographs! We would highly recommend Alpine Club of Himalaya.

Sujan and Alpine Club of Himalaya team are amazing!!! For the fantastic service and coordination that they provided. From all the quotes and questions, the moment I landed, the cars, and everything during trekking to Everest Base Camp + Gokyo Lake. I am full of appreciation and gratitude for your world class excellence and expertise. I won’t hesitate to recommend you to all our business contacts and friends in Indonesia who plan on visiting Kathmandu. Thank you again and a job well done

From arrival to departure everything was perfectly arranged. Beforehand, we were well informed about, among other things, the food, what should and certainly should not eat during our stay in the mountains. In retrospect, that certainly helped us. During the amazing trip to Gokyo Ri (12 days) we were perfectly guided by Tsiring (guide) and Samir (sherpa). Real hotshots! From day to day we looked at what was in store for us. Since the weather was less than normal at this time of year, the program was sometimes adjusted in consultation. And worked out well every time. The Gokyo Valley Trek is a great challenging beautiful but also not too busy route. The views are breathtaking and the summit to Ri is a challenge that requires a lot of effort. At the top you get reward to work and the views are really great! Sujan kept in regular contact with us during the walk to make sure everything was as desired. And that was it, thanks for that. Before and after the hike Sujan also arranged a tour through Kathmanu, Bhaktapur and Patan. In addition to the intensive walk, this was a wonderful addition to an unforgettable holiday.

My first multi-day trek and better could not have been hit. Everything was organized in advance and so it went on smoothly suburban. Sujan took care of everything and was always available. Our guide Pasang Sherpa was super nice, explained a lot about the culture and knew perfectly. We had a wonderful, if sometimes exhausting time together. Looking forward to the next summit.

Sher was well helped in planning our trek. Because of the weather we had to postpone the trek several times, which Sujan did for us without hesitation. So we had a smooth jeep ride and a perfectly organized flight to Lukla. In Kathmandu, too, we were able to get support for all sorts of questions. Thank you.
