Like the rock of Gibraltar the Brimstone Hill Fortress was in the hands of two European powers, who have fought each other for control of this Hill and the island. Both the British and the French built forts to defend themselves from the Spanish and from each other.
In 1689 the French were able to capture the British Fort Charles in Sandy Point. By taking cannons to Brimstone Hill which conveniently overlooked Fort Charles. The British were then able to recapture Fort Charles in 1690. Recognizing its strategic importance the British started the building of this magnificent fortress.

5.00My wife and I very much enjoyed the Brimstone tour Gibraltar tours! Magic our tour guide was amazing! He knew everything that was to know between the port and the fortress. He was very polite and professional, can’t imagine how our tour could have been any better. We misunderstood the description of the tour but they accommodated us anyway. Great tour with Magic!

5.00Ellsworth (Magic) was a great tour guide. The drive to the hike site was a chance for us to learn about local culture and history from him, the hike itself was short, steep, and beautiful. His knowledge about the fortress was impressive, and he gave us plenty of time to catch our breath, take a million pictures, and ask questions. I recommend this to anyone who likes history and can handle a steep climb for about 30 minutes. Magic gave us a truly great day!

5.00The hike up the side of the mountain was short but steep with fantastic views. Elvis was very knowledgeable and mad a great tourguide.

5.00We had a great tour with Elvis! Brimstone fortress is a must see if you visit St. Kitts! Be prepared for a moderate hike on this excursion and drink lots of water. It is quite a hike to the top of the fortress but well worth the effort because the views are truly spectacular! Elvis shared a lot of history throughout the tour and he was a super guide! I would highly recommend this tour.
