Dragon's Back
Arguably the best hike on Hong Kong Island, the Dragon's Back is a classic trail that combines many of the area's finest attributes. From mountain ridges and sheltered forrest trails to the white sands of Tai Long Wan (Big Wave Bay), it's no surprise the Dragon's Back was hailed by Time Magazine as Asia's best urban hike. Navigating the undulating ridge that resembles a dragon's back, one is rewarded with stunning views of southern Hong Kong Island and its surrounds.
Big Wave Bay Beach
Finish up the hike descend through shaded pathways before reaching Big Wave Bay. There one can jump in and have a swim or rent a board for a surf. Perhaps relaxing by the beachside is more your style? Enjoying a nourishing meal and refreshing beverage would be the perfect way to cap off an awesome day!

We hiked the Dragon’s Back while in Hong Kong. It was not far from the hotel where we stayed on Hong Kong Island. It was an easy drop from the hotel and was about 20 minutes away. We were dropped at the trailhead. The trail was well marked, and well maintained. The trail was easy to follow. There were a lot of people on the trail, but not so many it was difficult to navigate. The views from the Dragon’s Back were spectacular. It was worth the trip. We went in October and it was very hot and humid. I would recommend that in addition to water, you have other ways to cool down if this king of weather is bothersome to you (e.g., fans and icy towlette). We did encounter a little difficulty getting a ride back and wished we understood more about the bus system as there were many buses, but no taxis that were no already full of people. Fortunately, after a short time, there were other people being dropped off, and we were lucky to take this ride back to the hotel.

For a beginner hike, the distance is perfect-not to long and no to short. And the scenery is breathtaking. There are many streams and jungles. We can walk in the hill and also sit on the beach.

Amazing Tour Guide. He taught us a lot of history and explained life in Hong Kong from the perspective of a local with an immigration background. He kept us safe during the entire hike! Would do it again anytime!

This was an overall excellent experience but one must be mindful of the following: Be cautious of excessive heat. Know that when hiking, most of the ground is not flat and there are many rocks to go through so be careful and take your time. Bring plenty of fluids, water and drinks that replenish electrolytes are highly suggested. In my opinion, the best time for this hike is fall or spring when the weather is easier. Tristan, our guide was extremely patient and took the time to ensure my safety. The views are astounding and this is a great activity to escape the bustling existence of Hong Kong. Overall, this activity is recommended but take into consideration this review so you are best prepared as possible. Tom

Hong Kong is huge. It’s crowded. It’s easy to get caught up in the lights, the shopping, and the amazing restaurants. But if you’re looking to see the city from a different angle and get some exercise, this tour is an absolute must. The guide (Rory) was very communicative. We met at the starting point and took a mini bus to the trailhead. The hike itself was a perfect mid level of difficulty with enough climb to break a serious sweat, but not so much that the average person couldn’t participate. Rory knew all the spots for great photos and perhaps the highlight for me was cooling off with a swim in the South China Sea. 10/10 experience. Thank you, Rory.

What an amazing hike we had, the host was absolutely incredible with his knowledge and enthusiasm along with his warm and friendly attitude. He made sure we were all comfortable throughout the walk and answered questions anytime we needed. I really enjoyed my time on the hike and to top it off we got to spend time by the beach. What a great experience I would recommend everyone try it.

Although advertised as "beginner level" this is 10k but it was a great walk. Steep to get on the hill and then rolling up and downs with wonderful views over the coast. Then descent onto a beautiful sandy beach. Tristan is a great guide, knows plenty about the area and HK and its history, he clearly loves HK and this comes over in his conversation. I thoroughly recommend this trip (though maybe not in high summer!)
