The experience is fun. The grounds are well-maintained, and it’s a pleasant walk when the weather is on your side. The mud bath is fun, and the spa pools are pleasant. It’s stinky…but that’s all part of the vibe.

We did the guided tour (slightly earlier than our scheduled time but it wasn’t a problem checking in early) and it was great. We saw and learned about the area and Māori culture while on the hour-long tour. The mud baths and warm sulphur pools were wonderful too!

Great experience. Recommend getting guided tour so learn and understand surrounds, history and different kinds of muds, pools, plants etc. Guide was very informative. Wood carving was quick, get to keep a memento. Mud baths, plunge pool, bit crowded, but glad we had a soak. All up worth the $.

The experience started with a self guided walk through the geothermal park, with written explanations of the different features. It took about an hour and a relaxing walk and amazing to see the different characteristics of the area. At the end we then enjoyed some wood carving that was fun. The gentleman in charge was fun and helped us feel comfortable while teaching us to carve simple patterns. Then the mud bath. It was relaxing. We got to slather mud all over then rest while it dried. After a shower we then soaked in a sulphur bath then a dip in a cold pool. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. We did smell of sulphur for a few days, but I did feel refreshed. A fabulous experience

A great experience to introduce you to the geothermal area. The waharoa (gateway) into the geothermal walk was incredible - beautifully carved with the Māori story of how the volcanic area came to be, definitely worth stopping to read about it. The walk was not too long and included regular stops to learn more about the different pools and how they got their names. The Māori carving was a highlight - the two cousins working the shed were full of vibrancy and positive vibes always available to assist, even sharing with our group a little bit of their language! The spa was relaxing if not a little busy when we visited but I would definitely recommend hiring their swimwear if we were to visit again as the sulfur smell really really sticks - even with the helpful washing instruction cards we were given!

Great chance to walk around the geothermal area and learn about each individual area, then have a go at Mauri carving before heading to spa! Caked in mud for 20 minutes before being cued to leave and bathe in the other spa areas including cool plunge and sulpher warm baths. Made all the more pleasurable by the staff friendliness especially (Vera Lyne) You made my day
