Palacio Rio Negro
Built in 1903 by German rubber baron Waldemar Scholz, the Rio Negro Palace is a stunning example of Belle Époque architecture in downtown Manaus. Originally a private mansion, it became the official seat of the Amazonas government in 1918 and now serves as a cultural center and museum. You can explore elegant rooms filled with period furniture, art exhibits, and historical artifacts that tell the story of the Amazon’s rubber boom. Highlights include the grand staircase, imported iron sculptures, and lush gardens that connect to Jefferson Péres Park. Entry is free, and guided tours offer a deeper dive into the palace’s rich legacy and architectural beauty.
Monumento a Abertura dos Portos as Nacoes Amigas
Located in Largo de São Sebastião, in front of the iconic Amazon Theatre in Manaus, this neoclassical monument was inaugurated in 1900 to commemorate the 1866 opening of Amazonian ports to international trade. Designed by Italian artist Domenico de Angelis, it features allegorical sculptures representing the four continents—Asia, Africa, Europe, and America—each symbolized by a ship with a seated child. At the top stands Mercury, the Roman god of commerce, alongside a female figure representing the Amazon. The monument celebrates Manaus's historical role in global trade during the rubber boom era

Our tour guide Rudolfo was really excellent - highly recommend!! (and thank you Rudolfo!) Very knowledgable about Manaus and its history, and a very amiable guide - we had a very pleasant several hours (a half day tour) learning about the city, its history and its landmarks. We especially appreciated his initiative and attentiveness to my dad's mobility issues.

We would highly recommend. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. Small group tour; 4 people on ours, as we prefer. We could stay as long as we wanted, and leave when we wanted to.

Rondolpho gave us an excellent tour of Manaus. He couldn't have done anything to make it better. - On time to start the tour - Great driver in a busy city - Explained the meeting of the waters and floating houses very well. - Took us to the opera house and talked about the history and architecture. - We really enjoyed the palace as well. As a complete surprise, after mentioning that it was my pretty lady's birthday, he bought her a gift at the market. Great guide! Great tour! We couldn't be happier.
