Mountebank the original and best comedy walking tour of Edinburgh and the only tour of the city led by a professional, award winning stand-up comedian and historian with a Master degree in Scottish history. Since starting in 2019 Mountebank's success has attracted copy cat 'comedy' tours but Mountebank is the original, best and only tour led by an actual stand-up comic and historian!
Your guide is Edinburgh based stand-up comic and historian Daniel Downie - and his trusty sidekick Brahan the dog! Daniel has brought several sell-out shows all about Scotland to the Edinburgh Fringe. He has been described as 'outstanding' and 'must see' by the Scotsman newspaper and his show about Mary Queen of Scots was named 'Best History Show' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Mountebank is all about the hysterical and ridiculous nature of Scotland's history, people, language, weather - all things Scottish basically! So come along and laugh a lot while you learn a little :)

5.00Great walk with Daniel, lots of fun and very informative. Definitely a must do in Edinburgh. The other group walks (of which there were many) looked extremely boring in comparison. Book this one.

5.00Was unsure booking a stag for a walking tour but this did not disappoint! A hilarious but interesting tour, engaging everyone all the time, was very impressed! Would recommend to anyone!

5.00This tour was so much fun and we learned a ton! After having previously completed an Edinburgh Castle tour and walking the Royal Mile, etc., we worried that there would be redundant stops but absolutely not! We saw many hidden gems and even learned new things about places we’d visited before. Daniel is hilarious - if you like irreverent, sometimes bawdy humor, this is for you! If you’re offended by jokes about orange political figures, this might not be your jam. Have I mentioned the cute dog? Brahan is the real star of the show - the sweetest and sometimes ever so mischievous pup. 10/10, highly recommend.

5.00Absolutely hilarious! You’re in safe hands here as long as you don’t mind getting ripped to shreds in the funniest way possible. Daniel really knows his stuff and knows how to work a crowd. If you’re a pansy who is easily offended please find a boring tour this one isn’t for you! Highly recommend to anyone with a wicked sense of humour, the highlight of our trip!

5.00Without doubt my favourite walking tour ever. Daniel engaged perfectly with his audience, how he remembered everyone’s name is unbelievable and all the little facts he gained from us . Apart from the fact the man is a history genius giving insights and explanations he also combines fact with folk myths and of course hilarious comedy. Daniel included everyone on the tour not missing out one to one engagement with the whole group. His history was spot on ,not to many flowery facts but pieces of information that would stick. His partner Brahan was the coolest doodle ever and made sure he also interacted with everyone for a wee clap throughout the tour. Thank you Daniel and Brahan loved every minute and am still laughing at some of crac that went on .

5.00My cheeks ache from laughing so much. 😂 Very informative with barrels of laughs. It's a fun and unique way to see the city. Would highly recommend. Daniel was fantastic. He also gave us information on places to visit and try.

5.00We had the best of times! Daniel was an amazing guy - he fully involved us in his tour of interesting aspects of Edinburgh. He was so knowledgeable and also very funny too. Clearly knows his Scottish history. Definitely recommend joining him for the tour - & his dog was delightful too!
