The Peranakan Mansion aims to share and showcase Singapore’s unique Peranakan Chinese culture and heritage in a swiftly modernizing world such as Singapore.

The Straits Encave is situated on the Second level of the Joo Chiat heritage shophouse. Guest must be able to climb up/down a flight of steps to the second level from the main street.

Not a mansion and not the Peranakan Museum in Singapore.

This is neither a true museum (it’s one floor of a shophouse) nor a mansion! There is an actual Peranakan Museum in Singapore I would rather visit. Did not realize it was not the museum until I notice the different address. The guided “tour” was not consistent across the tour guides (one can hear what the other guides are saying) and lacks the level of professionalism one might see in a real museum. The small venue was crowded and chaotic. There was no “talk” as advertised.

Very interesting, wonderful experience. Make some new friends :) Love the free kebaya dress up and the keuhs were very nice! I learnt new skills today. I will bring my friends!

Wonderful exposure to the peranakan culture, would recommend to anyone. They also have offer a beading workshop which is really interesting to learn

Nyonya Angeline was very patient and bubbly! There were costumes to change into which was really cool as they are very expensive outside Might join advanced beading courses if I manage to finish my piece 😂😂

This was an amazing experience- the guides are so knowledgeable and friendly! I joined a tour last minute, and stayed to ask all of my questions. They were patient and engaged and answered my many many questions about both Peranakan culture and recent Singaporean history. The exhibits in the museum are fascinating, and I appreciated the level of detail provided for this living history museum. A must do in Singapore!

We were so glad to have found this experience, Juliana was an excellent guide, full of the knowledge of history of this interesting and unique culture. The house was full of precious artefacts presented well. We paid extra to dress up in kebaya (traditional clothing). Wonderful pearl of an experience tucked away in busy Singapore, not to be missed!

It is a must must must to visit. It’s better than the national peranakan museum in the city and other private museums around. It’s got everything you need to see and know and understand and appreciate deeply about this unique culture. Pls visit them. You won’t regret.

So informative, friendly and inviting and a simply beautiful place to spend a couple of hours. I recommend to anyone interested in hearing about the Peranakan culture, its origins, clothing, everything. Truly fascinating.
