Here your knowledgeable guide will meet you at your hotel and guide you through the maze of the 11 rock hewn churches of Lalibela. You'll be able to go inside and see the ancient interior, as well as how the faithful worship.
Asheton Maryam Monastery
Our morning begins with a visit to the Lalibela market. It is held only one day a week, so locals make sure to come out to buy as well as sell their wares. After our market visit, we will spend time today on a moderate intensity hike up above the town of Lalibela to visit Asheton Maryam. In this church we have the chance to see religious relics in the care of the Ethiopian Orthodox priest. We end the day with an Ethiopian cooking class that includes the traditional coffee ceremony.

5.00We had a great time in Lalibela. From the easily navigated website, to communication with Ebony and easy payment, all the pre-trip arrangements were very smooth. We even got to meet Ebony and her husband in Addis Ababa. Alex and our driver met us at the airport and took wonderful care of us. we learned so much from Alex about the history of the churches and their symbolism. We stayed at Sora Lodge, where the service was terrific. The Churches were amazing- nothing quite prepares you for them. Overall, a 10.

5.00We just spent 2 days visiting Lalibela, Ethiopia and it was absolutely FANTASTIC. We could not believe how beautiful the scenery was in this area. Ababa, our guide, was very knowledgeable, punctual and kind, and very proud to share Lalibela with us. We learned so much history of the churches from him. Walking around the churches was a bit difficult, as it is rocky, big steps and it had rained, so slippery, but Ababa leant a helping hand when needed. We also visited Yemirhane Kirstos cave church, which was a real must to see. There were many steps to get to this church, but the exertion and climb was worth it. We loved the drive in the countryside. Our driver was an expert on some difficult mountain roads. We totally recommend this tour!
