Discover Belfast’s past while exploring life during The Troubles, when conflict, fear, and resilience shaped everyday reality. Guided by two local women — one from a Republican background and one from a Loyalist community — you’ll walk the Falls and Shankill Roads, where murals, streets, and memories reveal how identity, division, and community shaped their childhoods. They share personal stories of loss, strength, everyday routines under threat, and the courage required to hold families and neighborhoods together. Though separated by politics and walls, their experiences reflect a shared determination to protect loved ones and hope for a better future. You’ll also learn how women on both sides supported dialogue, helped sustain the peace process, and continue to work toward reconciliation today. More than a sightseeing tour, this is a reflective, human encounter with lived history — an invitation to hear real voices and understand Belfast through the perspectives of its women.

This is by far the best history walking tour I've ever been on. The two women explained the history of the troubles really clearly and concisely, and their inclusion of personal stories made it even more powerful and poignant. It has only been running since January and I feel so lucky that I didn't visit Belfast before it started! I will be recommending this tour to anyone I can, and really really really recommend anyone who is reading this review books it straight away!

Cannot say this is a laugh a minute tour. Very serious, very emotional. Both ladies give their views on being on opposite sides. They do not apologize or attack the other. It deals with the heartfelt emotions of being, literally, at war. A war that involves family, friends, and children and in Julie's case home when gunmen entered her home and tried to execute her father, right in front of her. Certainly makes one think. Learned a lot and I am still mulling over the education I received. Best of the future to the ladies.

I cannot enthuse enough about this tour. Absolutely stunning and it gives a real insite in to the troubles and the impact that it had on ordinary people. Barbara and Julie were amazing guides. Don't even think about this, book it.

I feel truly humbled and privileged to have spent three hours with Barbara and Julie. It’s hard to put into words just how powerful and unforgettable this tour is—if you ever get the chance, don’t hesitate to go. The first half, led by Barbara on the Catholic side of the wall, is followed by the second half with Julie, who guides you through the peace gates into the Protestant side. Hearing two deeply personal and contrasting perspectives on the same conflict is incredibly moving. Both women are remarkably strong, having lived through the Troubles themselves, and their stories bring a level of authenticity and humanity that no other tour could replicate. This experience goes far beyond history—it’s personal, emotional, and profoundly impactful. Thank you both, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing your stories with us. Wishing you peace always.

Truly the most moving and informative walking tour we’ve ever taken, and that’s saying something. The extraordinary generosity of Barbara and Julie to share their experiences growing up and raising families during the Troubles gave us insights and an understanding we would otherwise never have.

Both Barbara and Julie gave poignant tours on their side of the gates. Very moving, personal recollections of the past, as well as testimonies regarding currant results and life experiences. I walked away with a deeper and much more collective understanding of the Troubles.

The tour was amazing. It’s eye-opening to see how raw the history of the Troubles is, and how its effects are very much still impacting the present day. The best part about the tour in my opinion is that its heart is the lived experiences of the two tour guides, each one from a different side of the wall. Forgive me but I forgot the name of my tour guide. But she was a lovely woman who used earpieces to assist with hearing through the bustle of Belfast traffic. She also provided physical elements to help visualize how troublesome the times were, such as rubber bullets and old photos.

For anyone who has ever heard mention of “The Troubles,”especially those of us from far away, please take this tour. The first half, on the Falls Rd (Nationalist) side of the fence was led by Barbara. A wee lass when it all began, she very much lived it, right through the Good Friday agreement. She was extremely well prepared with photos, facts, dates, props. She starts with a history of what led to the conflict, and (quite literally) walks you through to present day. When she reaches the end her half, she hands it off to Judith. Judith picks things up on the Unionist, or Protestant side, the Shankhill area. She also has strong feelings about the troubles, but of course with a markedly different slant. Both women have strong partisan feelings. Neither wants their children, nor their children’s children to have to relive any of it. This two perspective format works very well.

Very impressive tour. Both women talk about history and their own life as part of that history. After the tour we had to take a break to process the complicated relationship between both sides. Best tour i did in years.
