Skanderbeg Square

The first thing we will explore is the main square of Tirana which is composed of the Et'hem Bey Mosque, the Clock Tower of Tirana, the National Theater of Opera and Ballet (in which the first brick was put by the ex. President of Soviet Union Nikita Khrushchev), the National Bank of Albania, one of the oldest hotels, iconic in Tirana, the Tirana International Hotel and more.

Enver Hoxha Pyramid

One of the most famous buildings in Tirana, the Pyramid stands at the main boulevard as a sign of the communist non-sensical regime. It was first built as a museum dedicated to Hoxha, the leader of the Communist Party, First Secretary of the Party of Labor from ’44-’85 to his day of death and the head-architect of the communism crimes. The Enver Hoxha mausoleum was opened three years later, in ’88 and it was co-designed by Hoxha’s daughter. After the fall of Communism in Albania, it has served as a cultural center, as a National Television office, and has survived a project to be destroyed but still stands as a symbol of notorious communism and mostly as a touristic attraction.

You are with a small group during the tour. I would recommend this if you are interested in Albanian history. The trip was informative, some people were more interested than others. It can be hard to herd everyone.

Wonderful experience with Leo. Extremely knowledgeable and attentive-it was the absolute best way to see and learn about Tirana and Albania’s unique past.

Guided tour of the bunker "Bunk-Art1" located outside the city, then invitation to raki in downtown Tirana and a walk through the leadership quarter Blloku of the former Communist Party leadership. The best was the historically and politically very interested guide Dio, who told a lot in easy-to-understand English and could answer questions well.

We had a fantastic day with Mimi and DC on this tour. They were both highly knowledgeable and helpful, great to hang out with all day, went out if their way to help with any extra requests we had. The highlights were Bunker Art and The House of Leaves. We also loved having raki and coffee and trying byrek with both Mimi and DC. Thank you so much for a great day and for going above and beyond. We highly recommend this tour.

Aldo, my guide was great! I learned so much about Albania’s history, especially under communism. I reayenjoyed the stories Aldo told about how it was for his family during this time. The trip to Bunkart was fascinating. I would highly recommend this tour.

Literature indicated the tour would be by air conditioned vehicle but it was a 100% walking tour covering nearly five miles. Notwithstanding that deviation the tour was very good and we saw everything on the schedule and then some. The Bunker museum was a favorite as it made to realize the struggles suffered by the Albanians during the cold war. The square and surrounding buildings are very nice and the founding point of Tirana is very interesting (All you need for a city is a mosque, a bath and a bakery). Our guide Eni was excellent and she made every moment and location great. Especially when she shared a personal family story. Lunch was phenomenal.

The tour gave me an insight into Albanian History and culture. The tour guide, Dionis, was excellent and very knowledgeable. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in Albanian Culture.
