Tikal
Tikal National Park is the most excavated (Mayan?) archaeological site in Central America and one of the most excavated (archaeological) sites in the world. It covers some 57,600 hectares of wetlands and forests and encompasses architectural remains of the Mayan civilization dating from 600 BC to 900 AD. Tikal is the only natural and cultural UNESCO World Heritage site in Central America and one of few in the world with both designations. As such, Tikal is considered one of the top 20 tourist sites in the world and a must-see during your visit to Guatemala. ITINERARY 8:00 a.m. – After you cross the Belize border we will meet you outside to pick you up. 10:00 a.m. – We arrive at Tikal National Park and begin our walk through the park visiting the most impressive sites. 2:00 p.m. – The tour ends at the Tikal parking lot and we’ll head out to eat lunch at a restaurant near the park. 4:00 p.m. – We arrive back at the Belize border where you will go through customs again.

5.00I had a wonderful experience! My driver was super knowledgeable, and I really enjoyed talking with him about the history of Guatemala and the history of this special area. From Belize border to Tikal, from Tikal to Flores, from Flores to the airport. All done very smoothly and with ease!

5.00When we planned our trip to Belize, we knew we wanted to visit Tikal. We did a lot of research on driving ourselves to the park. While it seemed doable, it was not without additional cost, paperwork, and a little added stress. We found Tikal VIP tours highly recommended on TripAdvisor, and reached out. They accommodated our group of 10 adults with a large passenger van and very reasonable pricing. We were picked up on the Guatemala side of the Belize border. Representatives of the company let us know what to expect, and it was a very easy process to walk across the border and find them. While we drove all over Belize, we were happy to have a driver and guide in Guatemala, even before we got to Tikal. Elmer was our guide for the day. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating to our group. We had a fantastic day, learned a lot, and ate at an excellent restaurant on the way back to the border. 10/10 would recommend!!!

5.00We were met at the border by our guide in a very nice van. Our guide spoke great English and definitely knew his stuff about Tikal and how to get tickets etc to quickly enter Tikal instead of waiting in line. We were able to negotiate the price for our needs and what would be included which was nice because there was 8 of us.

5.00We had such an amazing time visiting Tikal with our guide Elmer. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. My 4yo son doesn’t warm up to people easily, but he really enjoyed hanging out with Elmer! He realized that we were all a bit hungry from our drive that morning and took us to a delicious restaurant in Flores prior to entering Tikal. When we got to Tikal, he was careful to show us some secret spots that are less visited by other tourists. We have some amazing pictures from our day and incredible memories. We would love to have Elmer as our guide when we come back to Guatemala!

5.00This was an amazing day! Elmer, our guide, met us at the border. He was super knowledgeable about Guatemala and Tikal. He took us all over Tikal, sharing lots of great information. Since he knew we loved birds, he also used his knowledge of birds to spot some unique birds for us. Elmer truly makes this experience extra special. He caters the day based on the pace you want to go, how long you want to stay at each site, etc. He truly cares about you having the best experience you can have. He was so kind and well informed, we learned so much. He took us to great place for lunch afterwards, that we really enjoyed! We loved the whole day! We felt very lucky to get Elmer as our guide! We highly recommend this tour with Elmer.

5.005 star service all the way around. Elmer was the absolute best tour guide ever. Super knowledgeable and great history from someone who studied the archeology, history and culture of the Mayan people. Absolutely an amazing day!!!

5.00We were excited to schedule a tour from the border at Belize to Tikal. Elmer and Fidias met us exactly on time and took us on a private tour of Tikal that we will never forget. The transportation was first class and Elmer’s kindness and knowledge of Mayan history is unbelievable. He also speaks very good English. The trip from the border is approximately 2 hours each way and the time was filled with interesting sights and information. Lunch on the return trip was delicious. Do not hesitate to book a tour with Elmer and Fidious. The trip was perfect and exactly what we were hoping for.

5.00This experience blew my mind. Elmer is an awesome guide who knows the history as well as the plants and animals indigenous to the area. He helped us cross the border with speed and ease, the van ride was super comfortable and he is a super friendly person. Highly recommend!!

5.00If you are considering touring Tikal, my wife and I highly recommend hiring Tikal VIP Tours. Elmer, a native of the area, led our tour. Elmer is an excellent tour guide. His knowledge of the site and surrounding area is extraordinary. We also appreciated that he tailored our tour to meet our specific interests, needs and time constraints. If you’re traveling to Tikal from Belize, I’d highly recommend doing what we did with Elmer— get a shuttle from your hotel to the border where Elmer can pick you up. This is what we did and it was seamless. Looking forward to our next trip to Guatemala and tour with Elmer.
