Our tour kicks off with a visit to a family-run ceramic workshop in Tonala. Here, for five generations, artisans have mastered the art of "barro petatillo," one of the most exquisite ceramic techniques.

Then, visit the local market, church and town square to experience the vibran lifestyle of a traditional Mexican barrio.

Our adventure continues in Tlaquepaque! Explore charming pedestrian streets lined with art museums, galleries and artisan shops housed in converted historic mansions. Find everything from textiles and blown glass to pottery and leather!

We'll end our tour at Casa Luna, a local gem renowned for its beauty. Indulge in a taste of regional dishes, paired with refreshing cocktails, local beers, or coffee.

After our cultural adventure you will gain a deeper understanding of Mexico's rich history and artistic culture.

We'll journey through Tonala's heart, experiencing the vibrant market, historic church, and lively main square, gaining a glimpse into the authentic lifestyle of a traditional working-class neighborhood. Then, we'll visit city hall to gain insights into Tonala's historical significance and learn about the indigenous cultures that have shaped its identity. Finally, we’ll visit the workshop and house of the Bernabe family to admire one of the most refined ceramic techniques in the world: barro petatillo.

We'll wander along the enchanting Independencia Street, a pedestrian-only avenue lined with magnificent 19th-century mansions now transformed into stylish boutiques, art galleries, museums, and inviting restaurants. We'll have the opportunity to admire the works of renowned local artists, including Sergio Bustamente, Agustín Parra, and Rodo Padilla, at their respective art galleries. Then, we'll have the unique opportunity to explore the world's largest tequila store, featuring an extensive collection of over 2000 brands, with numerous options for tasting. We'll conclude our day with a sumptuous lunch at the breathtaking Casa Luna, a restaurant adorned with Tlaquepaque's finest crafts and hailed as one of Mexico's most beautiful. Alternatively, we can experience the local food scene by having lunch at the bustling market, where we can savor traditional dishes prepared by local vendors.

It’s a great experience to see the Mexican cultura and heritage. Diego was simply amazing. His knowledge due to his toursim and history studies takes this tour to another level.

Diego is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, you can tell he loves his work and the cities/people he introduces you too. I appreciated Diego modifying this tour so i could spend the most of our time in Tonala. I was suprised and excited to visit Talleres Bernabe. The Bernabe Family are world class artisans. I had the best tacos at Felipes as well. Fantastic experience!

Diego was a knowledgeable and patient guide for our Tonala and Tlaquepaque tour. Visited the renowned Tonala pottery workshop of a respected artisan family with generations of tradition. In Tlaquepaque, impressed by the gallery showcasing Sergio Bustamante’s work. Diego’s food recommendations were great. Highly recommend!

The experience of knowing the ceramic workshop of the Barnabas family was incredible, we really enjoyed knowing up close the process of creating these crafts. Tlaquepaque was also a destination we loved, we enjoyed the whole tour. Without a doubt the experience would not have been the same without Diego, a passionate guide to the history and culture of Guadalajara who was attentive at all times to us and answered all the questions we had. We hope to come back in the future and meet some other things that remained pending in Guadalajara.

We booked a Tlaquepaque and Tonala tour with Diego as he has a lot of really good reviews and he absolutely deserves all of them! He’s very knowledgeable, super accommodating and super nice guy, and very passionate about his work. The tour is personal and customized, and he fulfilled all special requests we had. Highly recommended!

I thoroughly enjoy the tour with Diego, not only he showed his great knowledge, insights and professionalism, but also his passion towards his hometown. We had great conversation throughout the tour with topic varies from the Mexican politics, social issues and local cultures. Diego’s flexible on handling the tour, for instance, the Bernabe Workshop was not open on that day, Diego was quick to suggest alternate activities or attractions to open my eyes and deepen my understanding towards the local communities and neighborhoods. In addition, Diego’s recommendations on the food places were legit. The street foods and local shops suggested by Diego provide the warm, fresh and reasonable-priced foods which you won’t find in tourist-trap areas. Last but not least, we took the metro to go back to the centro area where Diego accompanied me to Hospicio Cabañas even though it’s not part of the tour package. In conclusion, if you ever happen to be in Guadalajara, choose Diego and you won’t regret it. P/S: Diego is also a good photographer who helps travelers to take tons of great photos.

After reading reviews about this excursion, we decided to book this with Diego Hannon and we could not have been more pleased. He knows so much about the people and customs of this area He was very attentive to our needs and we enjoyed spending the day with him. We had a great lunch and saw so many local artisans which is what we like to do in new places. If you are in Guadalajara you must do this. You will not regret it.

Diego is a highly knowledgeable guide and this was a great tour. The only thing we would change is to spend a bit more time exploring Tonalá and less time at the artisan workshop. We later returned to further explore Tonalá on our own. Overall this is definitely a worthwhile excursion.

We were in Guadalajara for a few days and booked several tours. Two of our tours were with Diego Hannon. Diego has studied Mexican history extensively and is still in school expanding his knowledge. Diego is a top notch tour guide. He met us at our Airbnb and we began our tour. First stop of the day was in Tonala, and Diego recommended a delicious restaurant as our first stop. Tonala is known for their world renowned pottery. We visited the Jose Bernabe studio and we were given given a private tour and demonstration by one of the Bernabe brothers. We also met an indigenous herbalist with extensive knowledge of medicinal plants. Our tour proceeded to Tlaquepaque, a beautiful city with lots of unique shops...Overall, our day was memorable and we would highly recommend this tour. We also recommend Diego Hannon as a tour guide.
