Hello! We are “Exploring Tokyo”! All of our guides are born and raised in Tokyo, offering you a fully private and exclusive tour. This is the perfect introduction to Tokyo. After booking, we’ll contact you within two weeks of your tour to create a customized itinerary based on your interests. With a private guide, you won’t be tied to a fixed route or shuffled around in a big group — instead, you’ll explore efficiently, blend in with locals, and truly experience the city. Your guide will share insights beyond any guidebook, showing you both Tokyo’s rich history and its modern highlights. Popular spots may include Shinjuku Gyoen, the world-famous Shibuya Crossing, and more. We’ll mainly use public transportation, so please have some yen ready.

Imperial Palace

This tour does not include access to the inside of the Imperial Palace. Entry is limited to certain public areas. The current Imperial Palace is located on the former site of Edo Castle, a vast park surrounded by moats and impressive stone walls in the middle of Tokyo, just a short walk from Tokyo Station. Today, it serves as the residence of Japan’s Imperial Family. The scenery is stunning, and it provides a refreshing contrast to the busy city streets nearby. The spacious gardens and wide open spaces create a calm, peaceful atmosphere. Please keep in mind that the park is quite large, with a number of slopes and inclines, so some walking can be a little tiring.

My wife and I had a wonderful half day tour with our guide, Megumi, and absolutely loved it. She didn’t just take us to the popular tourist spots—we told her that we were also interested in hearing more local, cultural, and thought-provoking stories, and she adjusted the tour perfectly to match what we wanted. One of the most interesting parts was our conversation about the Imperial family, why they are so admired in Japan, and how only men can become Emperor. She connected these topics to feminism and broader social issues in Japan, which we truly appreciated. It gave us a much deeper understanding of the culture beyond what you can see on the surface. Thanks to her, the tour became so much more than simply visiting landmarks. We learned things we could never have known without a knowledgeable local guide, and it made our trip meaningful and memorable. Thank you, Megumi!

I toured with Toko and she was the hidden gem in Tokyo. I am so glad to find her !!!! We explored: nezu, meiji, takeshita street, gotokuji and akhiabara. These were my interests and she customized the itinerary. We covered everything in a span of 6 hrs without a rush. Infact she is not friendly with good communication skills, she was so flexible and adjustable. We swapped daily life, local cultures, it was so immersive !!! I got to know so much about Japan. Also, the tour is by far, one the most budget friendly tour i found with such good standards...go for it!!!

We had an amazing time during our 8-hour tour of Tokyo with Toko. She reached out to us two weeks before the tour and we communicated about our itinerary for some time. We went to 7 different places thoughtfully curated by Toko from a list of 15 places I gave her. She took into account what interested us most and came up with the most realistic and yet inclusive itinerary. Although we had already learned a lot about Japanese history from our previous tours of Kyoto and Nakasendo Way, we still learned more from Toko and specifically about history of Tokyo. What I enjoyed particularly was learning about everyday aspects of life in Japan and Tokyo, specifically of school and university students, working people, youth culture, various customs and traditions. Toko came up with great recommendations for izakayas in the area we stayed after researching it for us. She explained some intricacies of the public transit system which helped us to navigate it on the following days and we hope will help us on our future visits too. We are very grateful to Toko and very strongly recommend to have her as a guide. She’s very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and proactive.

Natsumi was extremely knowledgeable about the shrines and temples we visited, even instructing us on how to bow in front of the offering sites properly. Her recommendations of nearby restaurants were wonderful, and I would recommend her to anyone wanting to get an introduction to Tokyo!
