We will host you and share this amazing park with you. Your expert guide will point out the unique geology, flora and fauna and cultural history that makes
Tongariro special.
The full day option involves;
- Pick up/meet in Rotorua 8.00am / Taupo 9.00am
(One-hour travel time from Taupo or 1 hour 45 minutes from Rotorua)
- Start the day with the Taranaki Falls walk (2 hours), take in stunning views of Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe, continue on to the Tama Lakes if fitness allows (4 hours) or add Lake Rotopounamu if group is less fit). Lunch will be on route as day allows
- Return to Taupo / Rotorua

We craft a day walk to suit the clients, including the best scenery, stunning waterfalls and spectacular geology. We go to places off the beaten track, avoid the Tongariro Crossing and enjoy New Zealand’s first National Park.

5.00Norm was superb. We had a great drive and hike with him into Tongariro national park. Unfortunately it was cloudy, and we had a bit of rain on our hike, but didn’t detract from the experience Norm is a wealth of knowledge and was so gracious to answer all our silly questions in addition to making detours for us to explore Lord of the Rings filming locations. Norm loves his country and his job and it shows. This was definitely a highlight of our trip to NZ.

5.00Well organized trip, owner Tom is really nice. Guided us along the way and on the mountain, with detailed info about NZ such as landscape and history knowledge. Volcano also looks cool and unique. We even had a chance to see the Hook Fall, and the coolest Mcdonald’s in the world😂😂. Lunch was good as well. Would def recommend this trip👍👍

5.00We decided at the last minute to hire a private tour guide on our visit to New Zealand. The owner Tom had to jump through a few hoops to fit us in. We are so happy we did. We definitely saw so many sites we would never have seen without an experienced guide. Tom’s love of the environment and history of the area is highly evident by his knowledge and commitment. 5.00Really excellent experience with Foris! Our guide Karl was fantastic and explained a lot of NZ’s history along the drive to Tongariro. The tour was a fairly easy walk and we had a wonderful lunch at the waterfall. He even made a special stop at another falls for us to check out on the way back. Definitely recommend and hope to be back for another tour. Thank you, Karl!!

5.00I’d give this 6 stars if I could. Tom looked after us from start to finish and had so much information and chat to share. This walk is stunning and he made it so much fun as well. He is clearly passionate about showing off the local environment. I’m so glad I did this walk instead of the overcrowded march that happens on the Tongariro Crossing. This walk took us the other side and up to the Tama lakes. The views of the volcanoes and lakes were so beautiful. We met very few people on the walk so it was amazing to take our time and enjoy the unspoiled views. Also, the lunch was yummy. Thanks Tom, it’s a day I’ll never forget 🙏😁

5.00What a day, not only did Tom collect us from our campsite he then guided us through this amazing park sharing his vast knowledge on the history, geology and bird and plant life that we would have totally missed if we tried this ourselves! To cap it all he provided an excellent lunch with the most amazing views. I can not recommend this highly enough! Go for it … embrace a volcano 😎
