Transfagarasan Highway - rated by Top Gear as the most spectacular road in the world, the Transfagarasan impresses with its extraordinary scenery, the number of serpentines and the height at which it was built, the Fagaras mountains being the highest in Romania; thus, the Transfagarasan reaches altitudes up to 2042 meters at Lake Balea where it starts its descent to Cartisoara village; here, on a 30 km stretch we can enjoy the sight of the road in all its splendor.

Lake Balea - a glacier lake formed in a cirque (a depression surrounded by high mountains) at an altitude of 2040 metres; it lies on an area of 4,6 hectares (the length of the lake is 360 metres) and its depth is of approximately 11 metres.

Had an amazing day even though the weather was against us and we did not get the views we were hoping for. Alin was very knowledgeable and made this a lovely day. On a clear day this trip will be out of this world !

Great experience it ended up just being my mom and I and he was able to accommodate for us. The drive from Brasov was easy and the views on the highway spectacular. We had lots of great conversations and he provided some great local tips.

Had a really great time exploring! Alin is a great tour guide and knows a lot about the area and Romania in general. How communication was quick and clear leading up to the tour. Would 100% recommend!

Great tour , the views are breathtaking worth trying , we took the cable car on the way down as recommended by the organiser and we have beeb picked up down. Friendly guide , stoped at the view points

I had the chance to explore the Transfăgărășan in December 2024, during a time when the road was closed due to heavy snowfall. Although car access was impossible, we embarked on a spectacular adventure by cable car to Bâlea Lake, entering a true winter fairytale. The highlight of the trip was visiting the Ice Hotel – a breathtaking place where art, light, and silence merge into an unforgettable experience. We ended the journey by crossing the mountain through the famous Bâlea Tunnel, a mysterious passage leading us into an even whiter world. This wasn’t just a mountain getaway – it was a return to simplicity, stillness, and wonder. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the support and flawless organization of Alin Săucă, to whom I am deeply grateful. He is a dedicated guide, detail-oriented, and truly passionate about what he does. I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking well-organized trips and authentic experiences in nature. Alin was an amazing guide/driver throughout the whole journey from Brasov to Transfagarasan. He created a safe space where we felt at ease and he shared his knowledge about history and lots of amazing facts of the town and itinerary. He communicated fluently in English which made our trip enjoyable. He advised us on restaurants. He took us to great spots to enjoy the breathtaking views along Transfagarasan. We would strongly recommend Alin as he is a friendly and kind guide/driver, he is the best to make you discover Brasov and the surroundings. Do check his website and YouTube .

The views was amazing. The driver told us about every possible inconivinient and adjust the tour plan. The journey by car was very nice. The driver told us lots of interesting information about the region and area. We are very recommend the tour with Welcome to Transylwania :)

This was our third tour with Alin and, as for the others, we’d thoroughly recommend it. He turned up to our meeting place with coffee and we headed off to the amazing Transfagarasan highway. It’s a bit of a drive from Brasov, but so worth it. What a spectacular mountain pass. Alin stopped at various viewpoints to let us take photos and admire the view, while telling us about the area, the history of the road itself and we also talked about life in Romania. We had lunch at the top, having looked at Balea Lake (we can recommend the pumpkin soup!). Then we got the cable car partway down, which gives you even more spectacular views, before meeting Alin again for the drive back to Brasov. On the way to/from Brasov keep an eye out for the storks’ nests on top of the telegraph poles - they’re really cool. Overall, another amazing trip. Our advice - do it!!
