This small group tour lasts for 5-6 hours. During months with evening darkness, we are hunting clear skies within the area around Tromsø. The excursion starts at 7 p.m./19:00 and the drive can take us in all directions when heading out and away from the city lights.

On some days we don´t have to go very far and can enjoy more time outdoors, while on other days we have to work a bit more and do a proper "hunt" to get what we are looking for. We do see some light on most days that we are out, but there are of course no guarantees - this is a natural phenomenon.

During the evening, we make several stops to look - sometimes the lights are directly over us. Usually, if the weather and lights permit it we do a longer stop with a bonfire, a pre-prepared meal (a portion of soup/stew), and a hot drink.

This is a proper small group tour with a maximum of 6 guests pr. tour this season.

The tour starts in downtown Tromsø, in an area that is considered one of the best places to see the northern lights - directly under the northern lights oval. The main part of the tour will be spent outside Tromsø. Our favorite spots are all located by the seaside, a sea that never freezes in the north of Norway due to the Golf current. The seawater is warmer than the air most of the winter, and there are people crazy enough to go for a swim. If the weather is cloudy along the coast, we head for the inland and the mountains. The variety is what makes northern lights hunting fun, and we never know where we end up durinng the evening. The big advantage in Tromsø is that we have plenty of locations to choose from, and roads leading in all directions. We will go to wherever is safest and most likely for guests to see the Northern Lights – sometimes that is 30 min outside the city, and on other days all the way to the border with Finland roughly 2,5 hours drive from Tromsø.

Reidar is probably the best tour guide you could ask for. He is incredibly knowledgable about the local area, super friendly and always has your experience as his number 1 priority. He took us through various locations, well away from the city lights. Whilst there will always be a bit of luck involved with trying to see the Aurora having the right tour guide know the places for the best chances to see them makes all the difference. Along the way he provided us with a warm drink and a meal whilst we was standing around a bonfire waiting for further activity. If you decide to book a tour for the lights this is the person to book.

It was my dream to see the northern lights in Norway and I was very lucky to have the chance to join Reidar’s group. He knew the best location to watch the lights along with cranberry tea+bonfire and share with us his experiences.

We had an incredible experience with Reidar searching for the Northern Lights! He found a secluded spot with scenic views and panoramic views of the Northern Lights. It was an amazing and memorable night of lights indeed. Aside from the Northern Lights, Reidar is really easy going, warm and kind. Definitely recommend to book with Reidar if you are in Tromso!

We are from Mexico and were incredibly excited to see the Northern Lights. Reidar was amazing he explained everything about the auroras in great detail, showing deep knowledge and passion. He took us to several locations to increase our chances of seeing them, and thanks to his expertise, we were able to witness the most breathtaking views. This tour was one of the best experiences of my whole life. It was originally scheduled for the following day, but they rescheduled it to a time with better conditions, for which I am very grateful. The view was breathtaking! The guide, Reidar, was amazing. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. probably the best tour guide I’ve ever had. He spoke perfect English, answered all our questions, drove us back to our accommodation and took wonderful pictures! Will never forget this day, would wholeheartedly recommend!

Reidar was a wonderful guide, who gave us the best experience of seeing the northern lights we could have hoped for! While we had originally booked the tour for Saturday evening, Reidar texted us the day before to let us know the skies would be much clearer that evening, and even picked us up from the airport with less than an hour’s notice. His diligence and flexibility allowed us to see a very special lights show, with incredible green and pink hues visible to the naked eye. While colours will always be more vivid in photographs, there is nothing quite like seeing the lights dance around the sky in real life! Even if you’re not lucky enough to see the lights clearly, Reidar is an incredibly knowledgeable guide, and the small group experience is definitely worth it. We learned lots about Norway and its history around the bonfire, while eating traditional hiking food (reindeer!) and drinking hot cranberry juice. Thank you, Reidar!

Reidar was a great host and guide! Cloudy and rainy all day, our 7-person group clung to hope and set out from Tromsø to chase the lights! Reidar found open sky and a secluded area away from other tour groups, lit a fire and set out food and drinks, and took professional grade photos he sent to us for FREE! If you're planning a trip to Tromsø, don't hesitate to hire Arctic Moments; you won't regret it!

AMAZING! We had the most incredible time! Reidar was the most wonderful guide, we can not say enough positive things about him! He was very upfront and honest with us about the weather conditions from the beginning, and luckily the weather cleared by the time our tour was about to begin. We drove for a couple hours in search of the perfect area with a clear gap in the sky. Reidar had a perfect location, private with just our group. We had a BREATHAKING light show— will never forget it as long as we live! Reidar provided a warm fire, great food, and yummy hot drinks and desserts. I would recommend Reidar’s tour to absolutely anyone!! You can tell he really loves what he does and it is his mission to give everyone the best possible experience! Reidar is the best guide you can imagine. We drove almost 2 hours but he found the nordic lights for us. Set up a bonfire and served good food and hot tea. It was a fantastic tour. Thank you Reidar.

We dreamed of seeing the Northern Lights during our visit to Tromso, this was clearly our main objective. Thanks to Reidar this dream came true on 4/1/2024. he took great care of us throughout our hunt because the night was cold and was full of attention for our 10 year old boy. We saw stunning Northern Lights throughout the evening. Reidar made us a bonfire and provided us with hot drinks and hot sandwiches. The experience was fabulous and we had the feeling of sharing a unique moment that will remain engraved in our memories in very good company. I absolutely recommend Reidar and THE ARTIC MOMENTS!!!
