We created the camp to provide a quality experience with excellent service, as we want our guests to experience the adventure of Acatenango without having a bad time. Our food portions are generously sized and made with sustaining ingredients, as we know firsthand how demanding this adventure is. The camp is new and very well-designed. It's also very well-located, with a surprising view of the the protagonist of this adventure, the Fuego Volcano.
Our camp is called IXCANUL, which in the Mayan language refers to the internal force of the mountain, which can erupt at any moment. Our goal is for you to fall in love with our country and make you want to come back again to create unforgettable experiences.

Ascent to the Acatenango volcano

We will begin the adventure at the Experience GT agency, where instructions and recommendations for the climb will be given. Then, lunch and the equipment required for the hike will be delivered.
Aldea La Soledad
We will take a vehicle from Antigua to the village of La Soledad, at the foot of the Acatenango volcano, where we will begin our hike adventure in a private land ¨Miratenango¨
We begin our ascent in Miratenango, our first stop, where you will find the last bathroom with water, a market to run any last-minute errands you may need.The route we use is private, saving you 1 hour and 20 minutes compared to the usual route.
Acatenango
The Acatenango volcano, which has a Height of 3,976 meters it has a medium - high level, as it takes approximately 4.5 to 5 hours to climb, Well, it depends on your physical condition and the stops you make to rest. We make a second stop when we reach the Acatenango payment booth, where the first entrance fee is paid by the guide, and they will put a bracelet on you to keep track. Halfway through the journey, another brake is taken for lunch, then we continue the hike until we reached "El tonel" at this point you have completed 80% of the climb to the volcano. then we walk along a path of approximately 30 minutes duration to reach the second payment booth also paid by the guide, and then we continue for 15 minutes to the camp where you will be able to rest for a while, drink or eat something.
Acatenango
Ixcanul camp At 6:30, the bonfire is lit, hot chocolate is made, and marshmellows are handed out for everyone to eat. If you don't want hot chocolate, you can order coffee or tea. At 7:30, dinner is served, and finally at the end you can enjoy a glass of wine, while you see the view of the Fuego volcano.

Acatenango
At 4 a.m., the ascent to the top of Acatenango begins, to see the majestic sunrise and admire the beauty of our country, a unique experience. We returned at 7am to have breakfast and pack to begin the descent.
Aldea La Soledad
We finished the descent at approximately 11am and arrive back at Miratenango to take the vehicle that would take you back to Antigua between 12:30 and 1:15pm
We arrived at the agency to deliver the equipment.

Duration: 45 minutes: The only difference is the method of ascent; the camp is exactly the same as the hiking route and includes the same amenitie. pickup truck: We'll take up 80% of the volcano in a 4x4 vehicle (capacity for 6 all included). 45 minutes walk to the camp.

5.00Good tour guides, knew the paths well and always had our well-being as the highest priorities. They also made sure to really give us the best experience possible. Going at night to fuego was a game changer and they made sure that people who were up for the extra challenge would go and we didnt lose anyone or had any scary incidents. Great agency and people.

5.00I'm not going to lie, I first saw videos of El Fuego on TikTok 2021/22 and I knew I needed to go right away - I finally did. Overall, the cost including the admission into El Fuego was around ~120 USD. But this included water, some snacks, food, a camping site at basecamp, etc. In the two days, the atmosphere was great. I've done hikes before and was up for this one. While I wouldn't say it was "easy" this is definitely not a moderate hike if you're not in shape. You will absolutely feel the altitude as you ascend. With a group of around ~19 people, the staff Fernando, Antonio and Eric kept the whole group together if others were falling behind. They kept the energy up the whole two days of the trek. What I will add though is that bring more liquids than you think you need. In fact, not only should you hydrate before the trek but do it with electrolytes and not just water. At the end of the day you'll be more than glad that you did this hike as El Fuego truly is one of the best things I have ever seen with my own eyes. An experience you'll always remember.

5.00I cannot recommend doing this hike through GT experiences any more. The service is amazing and everything is so well organised. Erick, Antonio & Fernando were our guides and they were so experienced - but also great fun. When we arrived to basecamp the weather was covering Fuego so our guides decided to wait hours before doing the Fuego hike- we ended up doing it at 1:30am and the views were amazing. We were so glad our guides did it this way, as many other groups ascended Fuego despite the bad weather in the evening and saw nothing. Our guides were so fun and it was really 10/10. The food was also really good and the red wine was much appreciated!!

5.00Experience GT did an excellent job putting this together! Our group was about 20 people, enough to make friends and feel supported, but not too many where you feel like you're just being herded like cattle. Perkys was a wonderful, encouraging, and energetic guide who kept a steady pace and ensured everyone in the group enjoyed themselves, especially as the hike grew tougher late into the evening. Experience also provided everything we needed, from extra gear and extra food to post-hike recs in Antigua. Highly recommend this company!

3.00Hiking the Acetenango and Fuego is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we're glad we've had the opportunity to do so. Everything was well organized, and we had a good time (despite suffering from altitude sickness). The base camp is very nicely situated, providing a view of Fuego, as well as the sunset and sunrise. We really appreciate the guides waiting for the weather to clear up before hiking Fuego, as it meant we had some pretty spectacular views. Unfortunately, there were three things that detracted from the experience. Firstly, there was a bit too much 'party vibe' for our liking. Many group members deemed it necessary to blast music the entire hike. Even our guide had a Bluetooth speaker attached to his backpack, which gave us the impression this was normal and made us reluctant to make a remark about it. Secondly, the guide discouraged us from doing the sunrise hike, stating no one else in the group was going. Turned out that a small group was planning on going (and did go) in the end, but by the time we found out they had already returned so there was nothing we could do about it. Lastly, one of us also lost their phone on the trip, and while this is obviously our own fault, the company did not respond anymore to multiple questions about whether another group had found the phone. All things considered, this is a great experience to do that we recommend anyone in a decent physical condition to do. However, we'd probably recommend searching for a different operator if you prefer the quietness of nature over drum 'n bass and mumble rap when hiking.

5.00It was incredible. Great group, great leads, porters, lunch, everything. It was really hard. Acatenango and Fuego was a rough treck for me, but the guides were friendly and stayed with us and made it worth it.

5.00This was an extraordinary memorable experience, the guides Carlos and Eric were phenomenal throughout, paying attention to the needs to the group and setting an ideal pace. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in doing this hike, the base camp was the perfect size for number of people in our group and we all bonded from the experience.
