Start your tour at the Rijksmuseum to see the work of some of Holland’s most famous artists, while learning about the country’s cultural history. Your guide will share stories about the museum’s best and quirkiest pieces as you explore a selection of paintings and artifacts from the 8,000 objects on display. Learn more about the work of Rembrandt, 17th-century Dutch dollhouses, and Vermeer’s portrait of domesticity, The Milkmaid. The museum is also home to a vast 19th-century library, the largest public art history research library in the Netherlands.

Van Gogh Museum

After a break for lunch, enter the Van Gogh Museum to learn more about the man behind the famous sunflowers and self-portraits that are featured in galleries around the world. See The Potato Eaters and The Bedroom as well as objects from his studio. Walk through the world’s largest collection of Van Gogh’s works while learning about his life, from his days in Holland to his dramatic ending in France. Your guide will discuss that whole ear incident, too. Depending on whether the artwork is on loan or being restored, your tour may include Van Gogh's large collection of self portraits, early and obscure works, objects from his studio, Sunflowers, Yellow House, and Wheatfield with Crows. After five hours, your tour will conclude at the Van Gogh Museum.

Guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. He came with a mic and wireless earpieces for each guest so he didn't have to shout and it was easy to hear him talk about the paintings and Van Gogh's life. Would recommend the tour highly!

We had an absolutely fantastic tour today with Pedro! From start to finish, he was engaging, incredibly well-informed, and wonderfully attentive to everyone in the group. His passion for art and history really brought both the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum to life — he made the experience fascinating and effortless. Pedro not only guided us through the must-see highlights but also introduced us to lesser-known works and stories that we never would have discovered on our own. His explanations were clear, insightful, and full of enthusiasm, making complex art and history feel vivid and accessible. It was the perfect balance of learning, enjoyment, and inspiration. We left with a much deeper appreciation of Dutch art and culture — and huge smiles on our faces. Highly recommend this tour (and Pedro in particular) to anyone visiting Amsterdam!

I loved the visit and learning about Van Gogh and his story from a different angle. I personally would have preferred a slightly shorter tour but I loved it and would recommend going. The guide was very knowledgable and the group size was 8 people which was quite good.

We did the tour that had about two hours in RijksMuseum, about 1 hr 45 minutes for lunch and then approx 2 hours in Van Gogh Museum. First-our guide, Cecile, was OUTSTANDING. She brought to life the Rijks museum, focusing on dutch and other realist, impressionist and post impressionist painters. the artwork in the museum was magnificent, and she really brought it together, along with the history of the influences of the Dutch East India Company, along with other commercial and individual patrons that built the arts in Amsterdam. During lunch we stayed in the museum and at at their restaurant. It was fabulous. The food was really excellent! We met our tour guide after lunch and went over to Van Gogh. That tour was different in that our guide (who had done extensive studies on Van Gogh) basically took us through his life, chronologically and through his paintings. I cannot stress enough how good she was and brought the museums to life.

Paola's deep knowledge and infectious smile made for a wonderful experience. When we were walking back to our hotel, my wife said "I was never very interested in Van Gogh - now I really want to know more - we should find that movie and book." Paola did more than share knowledge - she created in another human being a desire to learn- and I know of no higher compliment. I hope our paths cross again.

I’m so glad we booked the semi-private tour of the museum—there’s no way we would have learned as much on a self-guided visit. It was truly money well spent. Our guide, Jacopo, was outstanding. His passion for the arts and deep knowledge of Van Gogh shone through in every story he told. He brought the paintings to life with vivid descriptions and fascinating insights into Van Gogh’s life and family. The time flew by, and I left wanting to learn even more.
