Paia
No trip to Maui is complete without a trip to Paia, Maui’s coolest little town. Located on the North Shore, Paia started as a plantation town with the opening of Paia Store in 1896 to serve the needs of the multi-cultural plantation workers of Paia Sugar Mill.
Ke'anae Arboretum
Located adjacent to the Pi'ina'au Stream, the Ke'anae Arboretum features terraces built by ancient Hawaiians for cultivating taro, which was a staple of their diet. A paved walkway measuring 0.6 miles runs through the arboretum, showcasing a diverse array of timber, fruit, and ornamental trees from different tropical regions of the world, many of which are labeled with nameplates. With over 150 types of tropical plants, including taro, the arboretum is an excellent spot to observe native flowers and marvel at the vibrant bark of rainbow eucalyptus trees.

5.00Outstanding day. Charlie, our driver and guide was awesome. Saw a lot of great sights, great photos and lunch at Huli Huli Chicken was spectacular. Great food surpassed only by a great beach and scenery.

5.00John was awesome! Very knowledgable and a great driver on the road to Hana. It was an amazing trip. So much to see and so beautiful. Having a driver for this trip was so nice and allowed all of us to see everything and not have to worry about negotiating all the turns and one lane bridges. Mahalo John!!

Every stop was thoughtfully chosen and added so much depth to the journey. John’s passion for Maui truly shines, and he made the entire day both educational and unforgettable. I would highly recommend John to anyone looking to have an amazing, authentic Road to Hana experience.

5.00My family of 9 (age 2 - age 91) booked a Private Road to Hana Tour with Experience Hawaii Tours. Our tour guide, Coby, was excellent! It is not easy to travel with your extended family. Simply the number of people that need to get in and out of the van can be incredibly time consuming. Coby was kind, patient, and fun. He met each of us where we were at physically, because you could simply drive the Road to Hana, but Coby helped us experience the Road to Hana. Lots of planning went into this tour, I had quite a list of stops. Only one stop was not accomplished, although Coby was game to do it. We simply ran out of enthusiasm and didn't want to return on the road in the dark. It was our choice to not push on. What was the best about Coby, was he knew spots that were not the "typical" stops on my list, but accomplished the same goal. Some of us went into a lava tube, hiked through a bamboo forest, and jumped off a waterfall. It was a fantastic day!

5.00We toured Road to Hana with Shayne. He was a wonderful tour guide! He took us to many great sights and a wonderful lunch stop. Great, comfortable vehicle. Out of all the excursions we did throughout our time in Hawaii, this was by far our favorite! Highly recommend!

5.00David was our driver and boy were we in for a treat, although we did not know it yet! David was a great driver and showed us little spots that the average tourist would not know about. Additionally, he was a wealth of knowledge not only on all things “Hawaii” (history, language and customs) but was a botanist AND an organic farmer! We were very happy with the whole experience and would highly recommend you book with Experience Hawaii and ask for David.

He was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing the beauty and history of Maui. Throughout the day, Donovan went above and beyond to make sure we experienced both the must-see highlights and some amazing hidden spots off the beaten path. The drive itself was smooth and comfortable, and Donovan’s storytelling made every twist and turn of the Road to Hana come alive. We loved the balance of adventure and relaxation — stopping for waterfalls, ocean views, a delicious lunch, and local treats along the way. His timing and personalized suggestions made the entire journey feel truly special. If you’re looking for the perfect way to explore the Road to Hana, Experience Hawaii Tours with Donovan is the way to go. It was one of the best days of our trip and an experience we’ll remember forever!

5.00Pick up was easy. We were a group of 8. For comfort we split between two cars. Luke and Spencer were our guides. Very informative. Guides knew local plants and fauna. History of island and made great stops to accommodate everyone’s wishes. Black sand beaches, beautiful vistas, local shops for chocolate, banana bread and coffees. Waterfall stops with time for swimming. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer day. And drop off right at our boat at the end of the day. Highly recommend!

5.00Our Road to Hana tour was unforgettable. The company was incredibly easy to work with—flexible, responsive, and great at communicating both during the booking process and the day before pickup. They tailored the entire experience to exactly what we wanted. I’ve taken many tours over the years, and this one stands out as one of the very best. Melissa, our guide, was exceptional—truly the best guide I’ve ever had. She welcomed us like ohana from the moment we met. Spending 8–10 hours in a car with someone you’ve never met could feel uncomfortable, but Melissa’s warm, personable nature made the day feel effortless. Her knowledge of the island, the Road to Hana, the plants, wildlife, culture, and history was incredible, and her passion for Hawaii shone through in everything she shared. She even doubled as our photographer, capturing tons of great photos and sending them to us afterward. If you’re planning to experience the Road to Hana, I can’t recommend this company enough—and you should absolutely request Melissa.
