Desale is the best guide and company that you can ever wish to have to learn about this amazing place brimming with so much energy. It’s a must experience one should visit in Ethiopia Desale took care of every details and request during the three days while we were there. We were there during the Easter celebration and it’s amazing to see the faith and people coming together. Please add this to your itinerary and you will not regret a bit if you go with Desale.

Happy is well… happy! He was an excellent tour guide and very flexible. He welcomes my friend and I into his home for a local meal. You should use him!

We went to Lalibela to meet Happy. Happy looks after an orphanage in Lalibela and Christine has been here several times and supported the orphanage. This time we also wanted to look after the right, after the raids and misdeeds of the Tigris rebels. Of course we visited the rock churches. There were only four other tourists present. Happy is a very professional guide. He knows the history of Ethiopia and Lalibela like no other. His employee Josef is also very well trained. Both speak very good English, can answer any question. Happy is more than a guide. He is or becomes a friend. The welfare of its guests is very important in the, but also its city. So he always gives money to the orphanage from his earnings. But he is also a super guide - also for trips throughout Ethiopia. No matter what it is: Happy will handle it. For us, Happy is a good friend and we can only recommend him.

I highly recommend ‘Happy Day Ethiopian Tours’ in Lalibela. The guide, who of course, was named ‘Happy’ provided me and my family a tour of the historic churches. He was extremely knowledgeable of the landmarks. While in a comfortable air-conditioned SUV, he showed us the city and its surroundings. Happy also took us on a walking tour of the market where the locals went for all their needs and explained the lifestyles of the people there. The tour he provided was at our pace and not rush-rush-rush. He was great in all aspects.

Lalibela is a very special place, and Happy is a very special person. He met us on New Year's Day at the airport (notably, it wasn't Ethiopia's new year, which is in September). Nonetheless, there was Happy with a big smile and a big sign welcoming us and wishing us a "Happy New Year". Happy grew up in the area, and he knows the area well, including the rock-hewn churches. Happy's grandfather is a priest, so it's clear it has extra meaning to him. Visiting these churches was an experience that brought goosebumps to my arms. They really are incredible. It's a surreal place to visit. And it was extra meaningful being able to experience it with Happy, who gave me historical information and local insight. Happy took great care of us, was always flexible, and most importantly, incredibly kind. We went to the Saturday market, where Happy helped us navigate the zillion things being sold, and helped me negotiate some scarf purchases. We walked through a local village, seeing every day life, as local children all smiled and said hello. Happy even invited us to his aunt's house for a traditional coffee ceremony with his family. This wasn't a "tourist" experience-- it was real. Spending time with Happy and his sweet family (and drinking probably the greatest cup of coffee I ever had) was a very special experience. It brought Lalibela even closer to my heart. I'll never forget my time in Lalibela, and I"ll never forget Happy. I arrived in Lalibela right on Christmas day, and I contacted Happy in the morning from Bahir Dar airport (30 minutes flight to Lalibela). He managed to arrange everything and I got to experience the most beautiful Christmas celebration that night. —Thank you, Happy, I don’t think I would have experienced this if I did it on my own. —He secured us good spots to see the ceremony and take photos. Happy surely lives up to his name. He’s friendly, funny, and always happy. He knows his town and the churches very well, everybody knows him. And he also took me to restaurants where no “faranjis” (foreigners) around. I don’t know if he always does that, but if he hasn’t taken you to one, ask him! :)

Happy is a great tour guide. We went to Lalibela for Christmas celebrations and he took care of us very well. We were a group of photographers and wanted to capture the Christmas celebrations at St Mary Church. The celebrations went on the entire night till dawn. Happy stayed with us the whole time and even securing a perfect spot for us to take photographs from. He is very caring and responsible. He is also very jovial and full of life. His name represents him very well. He is generally a very Happy person.
