Wanaka’s boat and 4×4 tour brings you the best of both worlds with views from the lake and land looking over remote islands and National Parks. From start to finish we are off the beaten path, no people, truly remote, truly stunning. The best place to enjoy the views and your gourmet picnic!
The 4 hour tour departs from the Wanaka Marina and includes a 20 minutes boat ride to and from the base of Mt. Burke where you and your guide board our 4x4.

Wanaka Water Taxi and Wanaka 4x4 Explorer
We will meet you on the jetty of the Wanaka Marina on Lakeside Road. Parking is very limited in the marina and not allowed on the graveled area. You can drive past the marina and park on the left side of Lakeside Rd once it turns up the hill. Or walk from the town center.
Lake Wanaka
Wanaka’s boat and 4×4 tour brings you the best of both worlds with views from the lake and land looking over remote islands and the National Park. From start to finish we are off the beaten path, no people, truly remote, truly stunning. Your trip starts by boating up Lake Wanaka towards the head of Stevenson’s arm with tremendous views of glacier carved mountains, a constantly changing vista of steep walls and alpine peaks. We cruise past Stevenson’s Island to our landing point at the foot of Mt Burke. Boarding our 4×4 Vehicle we climb above the lake, your view expands until all of Lake Wanaka lays before you in a stunning panorama of crystal clear blue water and the alpine peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park. Take some time to enjoy the solitude and enjoy the best view in Wanaka! Your guide will give you an insight into the history of the farm station and the geology of the Alps and some of the stories of the early settlers while you enjoy your gourmet picnic.

5.00Morning Adventure to Mt Burke: Our day began with an exciting journey to Mt Burke. Tony, our driver, made the experience truly memorable with his excellent driving skills as he navigated the winding roads up the hill. Throughout the ascent, he provided detailed explanations of the region and terrain, enriching our understanding of the area. The weather was nearly perfect, adding to the enjoyment of our adventure. The 4x4 ride up Mt Burke was exhilarating, offering a thrilling start to the day. Once we reached the hills, we wrapped up this part of our adventure with a pleasant picnic amid breathtaking scenery. Boat Ride to Mou Waho: After our picnic, we continued our exploration with a boat ride to Mou Waho, guided by Brent. Brent’s extensive knowledge of the area made the trip informative and engaging. Upon arrival, we embarked on a leisurely hike to the observation point. The walk was enjoyable and well worth the effort. At the observation point, we were rewarded with spectacular views, making the hike a highlight of our day. Recommendation for Adventurers: For those seeking adventure and wanting to learn more about the region, Wanaka Water Taxi comes highly recommended. Their professionalism, fun approach, and deep knowledge ensure a memorable experience for all. Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with excitement, learning, and stunning scenery. 5.00A five star experience from start to finish. It starts with a cruise over the lake where you are picked up in a 4x4 to explore the private estate. The views are awesome when the conditions are good. It's a bone shaker of a ride but totally worth it. Krystal and Sean were both fantastic. We will recommend to others.

5.00Amazing tour, wonderfull views&landscape, great guides, Lovely picknick on a breathtaking spot. And on request a heli pick up from the mountain where the 4x4 tour ended... flying over Aspiring NP, glacier landing in the snow. Thanks for organizing this tour, it was the best ever.

5.00Amazing tour. Tour guides were excellent, friendly and very knowledgeable. Boat ride across the lake and 4 wheel drive experience was just amazing. Morning tea was delicious and had the best views. Would recommend trying this if you come to Wānaka

5.00We had an amazing time on the Wanaka Water Taxi and 4X4 Explorer tour. Krystal was awesome to coordinate with and is a great boat captain. We met at the dock. Krystal and Tony took us across Lake Wanaka to an exclusive area that only they have the authority to operate on. Tony took us up the steep incline to the top and some amazing panoramic views. The tour is for up to 4 people and that day is was just my wife and I. We highly recommend this breathtaking excursion and Krystal and Tony couldn’t have been any nicer!

5.00Great adventure. Lovely trip across the lake, proper off road track drive up to scenic view points across lake, with several stop offs and interesting commentary along the way. Picnic at the top with amazing views over lakes and mountains. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

5.00One of the highlights of our trip. We booked the 4x4 and Mou Waho tours back to back and really had a fantastic time. The guides were really informative and friendly. The 4x4 provided some thrilling driving to the most amazing lookout over the Lake and islands. The food was lovely and the experience didn't feel rushed at all. The afternoon to the island allowed a hike to the top to see the "island on a lake on an island on a lake on an island on an ocean!" Nice walk and great views, especially if you carry on up to the second lookout. Thanks to Wanaka Water Taxi for a fantastic day.
