This isn’t a spa add-on or a quick dip. It’s a Wild Atlantic Way ritual.
Your wood-fired sauna tent is pitched right on the edge of the Atlantic within the sheltered confines of Castle Haven, where heat, sea, story and place are all given their turn. You’ll warm slowly in a crackling sauna, step out into wild Atlantic water, then return to the heat again, following a rhythm that’s been part of coastal life here for generations.
What sets it apart is the sense of place and pacing. Small groups only (it will probably be just your group), no rushing, no background music, no gimmicks. Just fire, salt water, fresh air and space to breathe. We weave in local lore, seasonal traditions and a grounding sense of dúchas, so you leave not just relaxed, but properly connected to where you are.

Start the morning with a quiet coastal walk to Tobar Bearcháin as first light lifts over the water. We move at an easy, unhurried pace, taking time at the holy well and along the shoreline, sharing stories of water, the sea, and the lived dúchas of this rugged stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way. From here we move between sea and warmth, beginning with the shelter of your puball allais, a traditional sweat-tent style, wood-fired sauna. The sauna forms part of a simple water ritual, moving between cold and warmth, sea and shelter, allowing the body and mind to settle. This is a small-group, sensory experience, grounded and unhurried. We finish with a healthy breakfast, letting the morning take its own shape before walking back up the narrow bóithrín that brought us down to this special place.

This was one of the most unique heat/sauna-style experiences I’ve had anywhere in Europe, and I know it’s not really a "sauna". As someone who comes to West Cork regularly and has done a few of Gormú’s experiences over the years, this felt like something very different. It starts with a walk to a holy well, then rounds of heat and sea dips led by Conor, all very much rooted in a real sense of Irish tradition. I’d never come across the Irish pubal allais / sweat house tradition before and what Conor & Celine are doing here feels very special. We finished with their own special tea & breakfast and we came away feeling properly restored. We loved it and well worth visiting West Cork for!
