This is not another walking tour but a small group tour travel by private tuktuk and offer unlimited beer and soda while you and your English-speaking guide are whisked around Xi’an off the beaten path. You will eat where the locals eat at small, family-run businesses and try the best local food at places you can’t find on your own. After 3 hours, you will finish at a local brewery to have a pint of the only craft brew in town.

Xi'an City Wall (Chengqiang)

You will meet at an easy-to-find central location and then wind your way through the narrow streets and alleys by tuktuk within the Xi’an City Wall to find the best food in the city. We’ll take you places where only locals go. You’ll cover a lot of ground and get off the beaten path to family-run restaurants that you (and other tourists) won’t find on your own. Between food stops, you’ll be able to chat with your English-speaking guide about the city while drinking unlimited chilled beer and soda during the ride.

Muslim Quarter

While visiting our 4-5 food stops, you will get to learn about the families that have been making their specialties for generations. You’ll watch your food being made and learn about what makes it so special to Xian locals. Whether it’s sitting by an old man grilling meat over coals in a quaint Muslim Quarter alleyway, or watching noodles hand-pulled to order, there is something to try for everyone. The tour will finish at the only local brewery in Xian where you can tour the facility and sample what’s on tap before we treat you to a pint of your choice.

The Tour was amazing! Diehl was so knowledgeable. The food was delicious but knowing the history was great. Highly recommend. Xian’s food has so much history and the tastes so varied. I also liked how at the end we went to a bar and had a drink together. We met some people from all parts of the world

All of the lost plate food tours are fabulous. Amber was very informative and we went to some lovely places that I wouldn't usually visit. I highly recommend

The evening food tour with Buren in Xi’an was absolutely incredible! 🌙✨ We wandered through the city’s lively streets, stopping at several local restaurants and hidden spots to taste authentic dishes bursting with flavor — from Bian Bian noodles and dumplings to savory meat skewers 🍜🥟 What made it truly special was how Buren brought every bite to life with fascinating stories — not only about the history behind each dish, but also about the people and traditions that shaped Xi’an’s unique food culture. His passion and knowledge made every stop unforgettable. It wasn’t just a food tour — it was a journey through centuries of Chinese culinary heritage, and honestly, one of the best memories of my entire trip around China. ❤️

I joined this tour because of the great reviews on TripAdvisor, and it truly lived up to the expectation. Our host and guide, Diehl, was energetic, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and fun. It was fascinating to hear about the history and culture of this wonderful city. The food was amazing, and the entire experience was very well organized and thoughtfully planned. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves good food and history!

Tour Guide: Amber. This was our third food tour with Lost Plate for this trip so we got much better at pacing ourselves during the routes. We went on a tuktuk for this tour and it made it easy to get around the city. All of the food was delicious and it was possible to eat a reasonable amount of the delicious food without being too full. Amber was really knowledgeable about the city and provided great recommendations.

Can't recommend this tour enough, our guide Buren catered to everyone’s dietary requirements and made sure that everyone left happy (and full) Buren introduced us to new foods and new parts of Xi'an which I visited later on in my trip. Perfect for couples and solo travellers alike

Had an amazing time. I 10/10 recommend signing up with Buren. He was incredibly passionate about Xi’An food and made a strong effort to ensure everyone felt included and that people were enjoying the food. He was also very kind in allowing me to ask for multiple food recommendations the remainder of my time in Xi’An. Don’t miss this opportunity.

A great evening trying a good variety of different local dishes with Amber. Amber was a great guide. The tour was well organised and the food at the stops were great. A good was to go a bit off the main tourist paths of Xi’ans Muslim Quarter.
