Zrinjevac
Zrinjevac, officially known as Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square, is one of the most picturesque and historic parks in Zagreb, Croatia. Nestled in the heart of the city, this green oasis is part of the “Green Horseshoe,” a series of parks and squares that shape the city’s landscape. Lined with grand plane trees, vibrant flowerbeds, and classical sculptures, Zrinjevac is a favorite spot for locals and tourists to relax and take in the charm of Zagreb. One of its most intriguing features is the 19th-century meteorological post. Erected in 1884, this post is a unique, cast-iron column providing weather data through instruments that measure temperature, atmospheric pressure, and humidity. Commissioned by the Meteorological Society, it was an advanced addition for its time and has become an enduring symbol of Zrinjevac. The post still stands today, blending history, science, and heritage as it continues to fascinate passersby with its elegant, functional design.
Ban Josip Jelacic Square
Trg bana Josipa Jelačića, is the vibrant, beating heart of Zagreb. Situated at the crossroads of the city's Upper and Lower Towns, this central square is a hub of cultural, social, and commercial life. Named after the 19th-century Croatian national hero Ban Josip Jelačić, the square features an iconic equestrian statue of him, sculpted by Anton Dominik Fernkorn in 1866. Facing south today, the statue symbolizes unity and strength, having been returned to the square in 1990 after being removed during the Yugoslav era. Ban Jelačić Square is surrounded by elegant historic buildings with a blend of architectural styles, from classicism to Art Nouveau, creating a visually captivating panorama. The square is also a focal point for events, public gatherings, and festivals, making it a dynamic space that pulses with life. Cobblestone pathways, bustling trams, and lively cafés add to its atmosphere, inviting visitors to soak in the essence of Zagreb’s culture and history.

We did a private tour and it was well worth it. He was easily able to accommodate for a wheelchair and pram. Luka had a wealth of knowledge and tied with his local stories and enthusiasm, it was truly a great tour. We felt we got a good overview of the history and what is modern day Croatia. Not to mention the local grandma made souvenir at the end!

Luka was am amazing tour guide. In addition to being extremely knowledgeable and a really nice guy, he was a perfect fit for our family (mom, dad, kids aged 9-17). We really couldn't have asked for a better experience. The whole thing was well organized, we were given clear details on where to meet, and Luka is even following up by sending us a couple recommendations. Because of this tour we now know what to do with the rest of our time in Zagreb, we know what to eat tonight for an authentic experience, and we have a solid foundation of Croatian culture which will follow us as we tour this beautiful country. Luka took photos for us and a video (I won't ruin the surprise). I would recommend highly to all my friends and family.

The perfect tour! We got to see key sights and hear the stories of Croatia and Zagreb, and to eat delicious food - everyone would enjoy this experience. Luka is a brilliant host and guide with excellent English and insider knowledge of the city, easy to chat to and with loads of stories to tell from Croatian history to the wartime rave in the underground tunnels! The food was awesome - from Mediterranean to Hungarian to Turkish, we tasted some of the major influences on Croatian food accompanied by excellent wine :) The two teenagers with us enjoyed it enormously too, before we all wandered back to our apartment very full and happy. This was a great thing to do on our first day in Zagreb as now we have lots of ideas of more things to see and try - I highly recommend it to other visitors. I can’t think of a better introduction to the city :)

If you're looking for an exceptional connection to Croatian food and/or history, this is your tour. I was truly impressed by Luka's depth of knowledge in local cuisine and food, approachability, and I think that anyone looking for a Zagreb native's perspective on cuisine and history shouldn't look any further.

Luka has a vast historical knowledge and is a great story teller. He was very attentive and checked with each guest throughout to made sure they were ok and also made sure it was personalised to suit everyone. The food was incredibly nice and I tried foods I never would have without the tour. I wish we had done this earlier in our trip, especially to utilise the recommendations he sent us. Thank you so much Luka!
