Mago National Park
South Omo Research Centre Museum
Jinka

Key Afer
Turmi

One of the best travel experiences we've ever had! It wasn't just another sightseeing tour. It was an incredible opportunity to experience some of Ethiopia's most fascinating cultures and meet communities that have preserved their traditions for generations. A huge thank you to our guide, Berekat. He was fantastic from start to finish. He wasn't just a guide, he became part of the experience. His knowledge of every tribe, their customs, history and way of life was amazing, and he explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and genuinely interesting. What really stood out was the respect he has from the local communities. Everywhere we went, it was clear he had built real relationships over the years, which made our visits feel natural and welcoming. He was also incredibly patient, never rushed us, happily answered all of our questions, and always made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. You can really tell he's passionate about what he does, and that made a huge difference to the trip. A big shout-out as well to our driver, DJ. The roads in the Omo Valley are long, rough and challenging, but we always felt completely safe. He handled every road with confidence and somehow always had a smile on his face. The vehicle was spotless every morning, and he never minded stopping whenever we wanted to take photos of the scenery or village life. Our camp chef, Gizaw, deserves just as much credit. We honestly couldn't believe the meals he prepared during our two nights of camping. Being out in such remote places, we expected simple food, but every meal was fresh, tasty and surprisingly varied. After a full day of exploring, sitting down to a hot dinner under the stars was something we looked forward to every evening. He worked incredibly hard behind the scenes and always did it with a smile. The itinerary was excellent. Every day was different, from meeting the Mursi, Hamer, Nyangatom, Kwegu, Kara, Dassanech, Arbore, Konso and Dorze people, to camping in the Omo Valley, exploring traditional villages, and finishing with the beautiful Lake Chamo boat safari. It was well organised, never felt rushed, and gave us plenty of time to enjoy each place. The highlight of the entire trip was definitely our overnight stay with the Kwegu people. This wasn't a staged cultural performance or a quick photo stop, it felt like a genuine opportunity to experience life in one of the most remote communities in the Omo Valley. Spending the evening there, watching the sunset over the Omo River, sitting around the camp, and waking up surrounded by the sounds of the village made us feel connected to the place in a way that's impossible on a day visit. It was peaceful, authentic, and one of those rare travel experiences that reminds you why you travel in the first place. These are the moments we'll remember long after we've forgotten hotel rooms or tourist attractions. A massive thank you to Berekat, DJ and Gizaw for making this such an unforgettable trip. Your professionalism, kindness, sense of humour and genuine care for your guests made all the difference. If you're thinking about visiting the Omo Valley, I can't recommend this team highly enough. This is one of those trips that will stay with us for a very long time.

We got Bereket recommended by another guide in Harar we met through the Austrian embassy. And what a fortuitous recommendation that was! We had the most wonderful, educational, thought provoking and also fun days with Bereket and his driver traveling through the Omo valley. He organised a perfect route for us where we got to meet quite a number of tribes but also had time to explore nature and the amazingly varied landscape. Having grown up in the Omo valley, speaking many of the different languages and being a very compassionate yet easy going young man Bereket was perfectly suited to create an atmosphere of understanding and trust wherever we went. He gave us such an unbelievable experience for which we are are very grateful! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Bereket is a great guide, the best for the Omo Valley region. We traveled as a family (3) and discovered the Valley tribes with enough time and pace to allow us to get to know them better. Not only is the typical photo trip and car. We were able to talk to them, Bereket knows many of their dialects, play with children, fish with men and in some of the villages eat and sleep in the same village. Meeting the Kwegu tribe in a village where children don’t even reach roads was a unique experience. And all with an exquisite respect to its inhabitants that gradually open to visitors and after a few hours allows to have a relationship of mutual curiosity. We turned with the camera full of photos, the memory of unforgettable experiences and the open heart to another reality. I highly recommend it for family use and we are seriously considering repeating it.

Unique experience in a very respectful and safe way. Bereket has a broad and extensive experience in Omo Valley. Everybody knows him and he is a very respected guide in Ethiopia. He knows the region since he is originally from there and speaks fluently many of the dialects of the tribes. We, a Spanish family of three, traveled very safe with Bereket and his driver in a 4x4 Land Cruiser and discover the authentic Omo Valley with direct and quiet contact with the people. The way Bereket organized it allowed us to step by step get used to this drastic change of culture, living, eating and sharing a lot of time with the local people. The encounter with the Kwegu tribe for two days is unforgettable and will be part of our memories for ever. We arrived to a very remote village (there were no paths to get it) and met the people, speak with them, play with the children, fish with the men and sleep in the willage and participate in some of their rituals. Amazing, no words to describe it!!! If you look for an adventure in a respectful and safe way this is the best option. You won’t forget and your memory and your camera will come back full of images that you can not find in another place. I highly recommend it for families because it opens your mind to a different reality and facilitates your integration with local families too.

Bereket has given me the most incredible experience visiting tribes in the Omo valley. I travel all over the world but this trip has been the best by far. Bereket was a wonderful source of information and is very passionate about his work. He made sure everything was perfect and followed our interests. Nothing was too much trouble. He is also great company. If you are looking for an incredible guide for the Omo valley i can recommend Bereket 100%. We have booked to return so we can experience the north with him.

Totally amazing. This was my favourite travel experience and i have travelled extensively in Africa and elsewhere. Bereket is a brilliant guide. He is knowledgable, knows everyone and is great fun. Together with the local guides, Bereket brought the amazing Omo tribes to life. The diversity in culture and also the landscapes they live in are unique to the world. Go on this trip with Bereket, it is truely wonderful.

When having travelled broadly, everytime is harder to get impressed, This time we were shaken from a vast experience, a reality that distances centuries in economic and cultural evolution. When we thought we had already seen enough, the next tribe was Incredible again, giving us new learnings. More to say, we asked Bereket specifically to stay away from the big tours and touristic villages, which was achieved in 90% of the cases, and that’s a super achievement. All under a super personalized, professional and familiar relation with Bereket (and Itu driving us), always finds the solution you need. Great guys to be surrounded by! Thank you for this súper experience!!

The Omo Valley experience was more than I ever expected, it was one of those trips that stays with you long after you’ve left. Getting to spend time with different tribes, witnessing their strength, creativity & way of life up close was pretty special! Pair that with peaceful, open landscapes, and it felt like stepping into a beautiful collision of worlds. ☮️ My guide, Beki, was friendly, thoughtful, and a true local with a deep understanding of the region. Having someone who could explain cultural nuances and answer my random questions (and understand my Aussie accent) made it even better. Some of my favourite moments were with the local kids, especially from the Hamar tribe. Their smiles, laughter, and cheeky energy brought me so much joy. 😊 This trip arrived at a time of year that’s usually tough for me, and yet somehow, it delivered exactly what my soul needed. I’m super grateful for this experience! Ethiopia, I’ll be back soon 🙂
