• The Real Test of a Tour Operator Is How It Handles Problems

  I joined the Fishing Village Bud and Atlantic Ocean Road tour departing Molde on June 15, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Unfortunately, I became separated from the group at Bud and was unable to locate the bus despite attempting to return before the scheduled departure time. According to the guide’s instructions, we were to go downstairs after visiting the open-air scenic site and return to the bus by 2:30 p.m. When I tried to do so a few minutes before the meeting time, I found all the museum doors locked and could not find a way downstairs. Nor could I find any remaining members of the tour group in the area. I returned to the nearby drop-off point, but the bus was not there either. As time passed, the area became increasingly empty and isolated. Initially, I did not dare venture too far away because I thought the tour guide might return once she realized that one passenger was missing. However, that never happened. As the minutes passed and I was unable to locate either the group or the bus, I became increasingly anxious. I found myself stranded approximately 45 minutes from the cruise port in an unfamiliar area with very limited transportation options. Because my cruise ship was scheduled to depart later that day and there was no obvious transportation available to return me to the port in time, my anxiety and sense of helplessness increased significantly. After decades of travelling independently around the world, this was one of the most frightening and distressing situations I have ever experienced. I was fortunate that several local residents took an interest in my situation and tried to help. Eventually, a kind employee at a nearby grocery store assisted me in contacting the police and others on my behalf. Through the efforts of these local people, arrangements were eventually made for me to return to the port on another tour bus. What concerns me most is not the separation itself. Misunderstandings can happen during any group tour. In fact, another employee of the company later expressed sympathy and explained that there may have been confusion regarding the passenger count before the bus departed. My disappointment lies in how the situation was handled afterward. When I finally returned to the port, the person in charge repeatedly insisted that I bore 100% responsibility for what had happened. I was told that I was an adult and therefore entirely responsible for my situation, that the other passengers had managed to return successfully, and that if I wanted greater protection I should have booked a cruise-line excursion rather than an independent tour. What troubled me most was not a disagreement over responsibility. It was the apparent lack of concern for what a customer had just experienced. At no point did I feel that there was any genuine attempt to understand how the situation had occurred, why it had been so distressing, or whether there might have been factors beyond simple passenger error. The focus appeared to be on assigning blame rather than understanding the incident. I was later asked to provide my name and email address and was told that I would receive a follow-up response regarding the matter. To date, I have received nothing. The kindness shown by the local residents of Bud left me with a very positive impression of the community. Their willingness to help a stranger in distress was something I will never forget. Unfortunately, my experience with West Norway Travel left me with a very different impression. In my view, the true test of a tour operator is not whether everything goes according to plan, but how it responds when something unexpected happens. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company to travelers who expect understanding, communication, and support when problems arise.

  We did not enjoy the experience because the cruise did not reach port due to the storm. We did not even receive a brief reply when the situation was reported. We lost the money

  The tour was just ok. I think they did a good job but the Atlantic Road is not that impressive. Several bridges over a relatively short distance. The bus was comfortable but no bathroom. Many buses seem to go in a row and end up at all the same stops. They give you 20 min to take pictures but if you need to go to the bathroom the lines are so long it takes up the whole stop time. Seems like they should stagger the buses so it’s not so crowded at each stop. The guide was knowledgeable. There were some pretty landscapes but it took the whole day being bussed around in a large group and that in itself is not my favorite.   Lovely trip to Atlantic Road and Bud Maggie our guide was very informative and explanations clear and precise Information and updates before trip was excellent

  Long drive, stops were definitely worth it, only a lot of stress short stop period.. Due to busy other tour operators.. In itself stops nice but far too short.
