This is a 2,5 to 3 -hour whale watching tour 25 minutes north of Akureyri in Hauganes. A comfortable tour with the oldest whale watching tour operator in Iceland where you will be observing the fantastic scenery, bird life, and the diverse range of whale species in Eyjafjordur. In 2022 we saw humpback whales in 99% of our tours.

Enjoy a whale watching tour from the small fishing village of the west side of Eyjafjordur. Depart at your chosen time from the meeting point in this picturesque town and you will be taken into the midst of the whale populations and rich sea life characteristics of the area. Whether the whales have ventured deep into the fjord or are staying closer to Hrisey, they are always just a short trip away from Hauganes. Most common species include humpback whales, minke whales, harbour porpoises, white beaked dolphins and with a little luck blue whales and orcas (killer whales). Your captain, a professional fisherman during the winter, will keep you in good hands during the summer whale watching season.

5.00We have gone on several excursions with Whale Watching Hauganes with our tour groups and have always been successful in finding whales. Last week we had one of our best days on the water. We saw 6 different whales, including two females, each with a calf. The naturalist, Julia, is always very informative and entertaining. We have another excursion booked in a couple weeks with our next tour group and look forward to returning to Iceland's oldest whale watching company!

5.00We’ve been to many whale watching tours around the world. This is the best. Julia is very knowledgeable. The hot chocolate and cookies are delicious.

2.00They should rename the trip the "One whale watching tour". We had beautiful weather. Sunshine and hardly any wind. We set sail and passed one humpback whale within 20 minutes. Then we stayed with this one humpback whale the rest of the time and after just 1.5 hours we sailed back again. They have made no attempt to show us other whales. And even the small island of Hrísey, with many birds they found too far. We feel bought: within 2 hours we were back on the dock. I like one whale, but I would have liked to know that beforehand. I would have chosen another provider.

5.00A good experience with the whale encounter. Unfortunately, it is not like in the photos, and you will hardly see them jump. I managed to capture the splashes and a tail. The organization is good, nothing to say; they provide you with the right clothing and hot chocolate. The guide explains thoroughly about the type of whale encountered, the humpback, and others you may encounter. There remains a bit of disappointment regarding the shyness of the whales. In any case, I recommend the excursion from this site because it goes further into the fjord, increasing the whale watching time while decreasing the navigation time.

5.00smaller, but oldest company due to whale watching. Hauganes is located between Akureyri and Dalvik. We saw the 3 common whale species, 2 of which were found several times. As on any whale watching tour, coffee, tea or hot chocolate can be drunk and there is a biscuit The people of the company know the fjord very well and know with fairly great certainty where to find the animals (more remember, whales are animals that do not 'live' in a vesta place)

5.00We enjoyed the whale watching experience. It was a sunny, calm, cool day. We spotted one humpback whale and watched it surface and dive six or seven times. No stunts like breaching or fin slapping, but seeing the flukes disappear during diving was satisfying. The crew was knowledgeable and helpful.

5.00A fantastic experience – friendly staff, a funny guide, and a skilled boat captain. It was like chasing something: first, spotting a fountain of water, sprinting towards it, and waiting for the whale's back, then for its characteristic dip with its tail above the water. And then a ride to the next fountain. In total, we managed to see four whales. The experience was so captivating that the two hours passed unnoticed. And the views from the boat were indescribable – this enormous fjord looked exceptionally majestic. I definitely recommend it👍
