Greyfriars
We begin our tour in the city's historic Greyfriars Kirkyard where JK Rowling spent a lot of time while writing the books. Here we'll see several names on gravestones that inspired characters in the series including William McGonagall and Thomas Riddell. From here we will also see two potential inspirations for Hogwarts in the form of George Heriot's School and Edinburgh Castle.
An area of the city named after Harry Potter? Surely not! See the place where she wrote much of the first book from here.

5.00Loved the tour! Bring your wand!!!! Learn a cool new spell and some facts I would not have known as a Harry Potter fan. Don't be intimidated by the walking it was not that bad! Our guide was very knowledgeable!

5.00Surprisingly I was able to get a reservation for this FREE tour the same day. We arrived on time to the meeting place. Our guide Ellison was excellent. He took the time to brief everyone on how the tour should go and what to expect. We took of right at the scheduled time. As we changed stations he would wait until the last person of the group arrived so he could start again. It’s impressive to see the knowledge this guide has about the story of the books and the writer. I recommend this tour for all Harry Potters fans. Ellison was awesome.

5.00For a HP fan, this is a must do tour. Not only is it free, but the guide requests you tip what you are able so that no one is unable to participate on this tour! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about all elements of the HP books and the movies. When my daughter and I toured the Greyfriar graveyard three years ago, we didn't find ANY of the things our guide showed us!
