Changla Pass
Changla Pass is one of the highest motorable mountain passes in the world, located at an altitude of approximately 17,590 feet (5,360 meters). It lies on the route from Leh to Pangong Lake and is the third-highest motorable road globally. Named after Saint Changla Baba, the pass is not just a gateway but an experience in itself. As you ascend, you’ll witness dramatic changes in landscape—from barren mountains to snow-covered peaks and icy winds. A small temple dedicated to Changla Baba sits at the top, where many travelers stop for a quick prayer and photo. Despite its rugged terrain and chilly winds, Changla offers unmatched views of the Himalayas, and the drive is a highlight of the Pangong Lake journey. Note: Due to high altitude, travelers are advised to spend limited time at the pass and stay hydrated.

I kept admiring Pangonzo after he captivated me with the movie "It'll Work". But it was also a high hurdle considering the altitude of Ladakh and the cold weather in the Himalayas. With that in mind, he arrived in Leh with a medicine to combat altitude sickness. I went on this tour, where I could go to Pangong Tso in a day trip from Leh. We left the hotel early in the morning, and for about an hour we simply drove along an empty road, where the snow-covered mountains of the Himalayas appeared. It's a spectacular view that even atheists can't help but wonder if God is here in that divine view. As we were thinking about this, the snow accumulation got deeper and deeper, and the driver and guide started talking about disturbing things such as, "If there is more snow, we might not be able to go" and "The military might suddenly shut down the road." After all, I feel regret that it was too early to go to Pangong Tso. The roads are getting narrower and even though we pass oncoming traffic occasionally, we are now an attraction just by riding on the road. The altitude was getting higher and heavier and heavier. That should have been the case, too, as we reached Changla Pass at an altitude of 5320 meters on our way from Leh to Pangong Tso. What is it like to be 5320m above sea level because you are a normal person who doesn't even climb mountains?? I was curious about it, but I couldn't even feel myself moving heavy because of altitude sickness, so I stayed in the car. (This was regrettable after I returned.) As you cross the pass, the snow is getting less and less, and when you notice it, flocks of yaks, wild horses and sheep greet you. I finally arrived in Pangonzo, which I had dreamed of. It took longer than planned, probably because of the snowy road, so I arrived after plenty of daytime. I went to Golden Week, so it wasn't as blue as the movie, but it's still a beautiful lake. The majestic mountains of the Himalayas, the surface of the endlessly clear blue lake. I was touched not only by the beauty of the lake, but also by the surrounding environment, the landscape, and the feeling that I was eagled. It was a great experience thanks to the drivers who drove the long way with great technique and the guides who guided us. Thank you, Afreen-Holidays!!! If I had the chance again, I would love to take care of it!

I asked to see the city of Ladakh and take a tour to Pangong Tso (without a guide). I was able to get permissions, give advice on getting used to my body, and get around efficiently so I could enjoy it on fewer days. Besides Ladakh, there are also tours such as Agra and Varanasi, so it is recommended for those considering a trip to India.
