  I caught a taxi from Okayama Station to the manekineko museum. The place was lovely. All the cats were so cute and there is such a variety, from traditional to wooden to modelling clay... even Lego. And not to forget the upstairs section! The painting experience is in a second building a little way down. You can pick from a small selection of prefabricated pottery sculptures, then Sensei sits you down where you have paints of different colours. I loved producing my own little manekineko now all wrapped up in my luggage for the trip back to New Zealand! The lady running the museum was such a friendly host too. She phoned a taxi to get me to the nearest bus stop back to the station (I was just stopping in Okayama for a bit on my way to Hiroshima) and I had a cup of strawberry tea, then we chatted about all sorts of things, while I waited for it to arrive. Overall a wonderful experience and I'm so happy to have found such a sweet little place. Then again I happen to be obsessed with cats 笑lol笑

  What a fun experience! My wife and I like to venture around Japan looking for unique experiences and she found this. It's located outside of Okayama and is kind of secluded. There is a parking lot here and two different houses. One house is a neat old style Japanese home where you pay for the entrance and painting if interested and the museum is here. The museum is not that big but has hundreds of the lucky cat statues of all shapes and sizes, it's fun! The next house is where you go if you want to paint your own Neko. My wife did, but my artistic abilities are terrible so I sat and watched. Overall, it was a fun experience, the people here are wonderful and it makes for a great memory!
