This isn't your average walking tour of Melbourne.
This is the story of Melbourne – told by the women who shaped it.
Hidden amongst Parliament House, the Princess Theatre, Chinatown, and Little Lon are the stories of women who shaped Melbourne.
Walk through the heart of the city where women built hospitals, launched movements, soundtracked our streets, and transformed culture – often without recognition. From the steps of Parliament to tucked-away laneways, you’ll meet artists, agitators, entrepreneurs and everyday rebels who dared to speak up and shape the city around them.
Come ready to see Melbourne differently – and to carry these stories with you long after the walk ends. This tour will leave you feeling inspired, grounded, and ready to shape history yourself.

I love walking tours and both history and the plight of women are dear to my heart, so I was really looking forward to this experience on Saturday 23 May. Unfortunately though, I found it disappointing. Our guide was friendly but not particularly engaging. Although our tour lasted over two hours and covered quite a bit of ground around Melbourne, the actual stops felt quite brief, and the information provided did not always feel well researched or delivered in a particularly compelling way. Additionally, several women on the tour (not me!) appeared to have impressive knowledge of Melbourne and its history, but this did not seem to be drawn out or valued. There were also a couple of claims made that seemed overstated or difficult to believe, and clearer historical context and sourcing would have been helpful. The tour also sometimes moved into broader ideological commentary, which felt like a digression from the stated focus of the tour. Overall, I had hoped for a richer and more engaging exploration of historical women connected with Melbourne and felt that the tour didn’t really do the subject matter justice.

Great walk around Melbourne, the guides Sita and Bec were excellent, at each stop we were entertained by commentary that was fun and informative. We recommend the Badass Women tour. We look forward to participating on more tours. Thank you Sita and Bec.

Wow, what a fabulous tour! I went on Sunday morning, March 15. We walked through the downtown business district, stopping along the way to hear about women who helped shape Melbourne's history. I found that the stories shared were thoughtful, eye-opening, and gave me a new perspective on the city. Nice to learn about the Brown Joeys, the Butterfly Women, the first woman tram driver in Melbourne, and other pieces of the city's history. Our tour guide Scarlett was outstanding! She was warm, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. What really set her apart was the way she wove in her own personal journey, which added a genuine layer to the experience. It made the tour feel not just informative, but truly human and connected. Definitely a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday morning. Highly recommend!!

We had a great time, Alison was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and a wonderful guide. She made sure no one missed out and stayed in contact with a couple of latecomers so they didn't miss out. We have done a tour in Canberra and will be going to the Abbotsford Convent. I would recommend them to everyone. This is just one of the amazing women we learnt about.

A friendly tour leader and group to walk with. I learned a lot about the badass women of Melbourne and was also introduced to interesting parts of the city I didn't know about. An easy walk and enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

An absolute must do when in Melbourne. Alison was an excellent guide sharing her knowledge with pizzazz and vibrancy. Brought it all to life. I realised how little I knew of, and about these trail blazing extraordinary women. A great historical building walk as well.

Would thoroughly recommend doing this walking tour. Catherine was a friendly, knowledgeable and funny tour guide who brought to life stories of the badass women who shaped history in Melbourne. The contributions of women in history have survived often through stories rather than in formal textbooks. Opportunities like this are critical to ensuring more people are aware of the invaluable contributions women have made to our cities, politics and culture. The tour was engaging, well paced, and genuinely eye-opening. I left feeling inspired and far more connected to Melbourne’s past through a lens that is so often overlooked.
