My birdwatching tours are organized in a very ecological and "slow" way: it is in fact possible to participate in small groups. During the itinerary we make some stops to observe the animals. The optical instruments available to participants allow them to capture moments of nature from a considerable distance, and then enjoy photographic shots. In the summer period there are often large groups of flamingos (some thousands), but also other very beautiful and fascinating species such as shelducks, avocets, black-winged stilts, oystercatchers and terns. Having this experience means discovering the fascinating naturalistic and landscape heritage of Pialassa Baiona and, together, retracing the evolution of the territory from the time of the Romans to the present day, touching first-hand the intertwining of nature, history (with the Garibaldi tradition and the Resistance) and the life of the valley's inhabitants.

The excursion takes place on board a typical small lagoon boat and participants can observe the animal and plant species characteristic of this intertidal brackish lagoon. It is possible to birdwatch with binoculars and spotting scopes made available, and also to make excellent photos at a short distance from species such as Flamingos, Herons, Oystercatchers, Terns, Cormorants, Waders, etc. It will be possible to learn about the historical and geomorphological events typical of this unique environment in Italy and some interesting local Storytelling, with culinary uses of the herbs and fish / molluscs caught in the lagoon. All this can be accompanied by refreshments which in the hottest moments is very welcome. The guide is always available for questions, clarifications and curiosities. We will make a couple of stops along the banks and more spectacular places admiring the typical fishing huts.

5.00My husband arranged a sunset birding trip with Giacomo and another birding trip the next morning. Giacomo is very prompt to reply to any questions you may have. The sunset tour was lovely. We saw so many flamingos and their colors were even more vibrant in the evening light. He provided a generous Apertivo during the trip and was very knowledgeable. The next morning we did a land birding trip that took us to different habitats and we saw numerous species of birds as well as learning about the area in general. We were very pleased with both excursions and would highly recommend Giacomo to anyone interested in birding.

5.00The tour was phenomenal. We were guests of Franco, who only spoke Italian, but was very familiar with the tour and the birds you can see. My wife and I enjoyed the tour very much and were able to see a lot of birds close up. Franco was very considerable while maneuvering the boot through this gorgeous lagoon. Franco also showed us some places beyond some obstacles by landing and unboarding to watch birds in next by locations where it is not possible to go by boat. Additionally, Franco surprised us with a small snack and refreshing possibility during the tour. It was a wonderful experience and we were able to take a lot of great photos of different species of birds. We both can highly recommend this tour.

5.00Magical hike between water sky reeds, salicornia and many beautiful birds. Giacomo Benelli, our guide, is extremely prepared, helpful and attentive. Its comprehensive presentation and observations/explanations along the way made this magical place even more fascinating. Absolutely to try and repeat, even in different seasons!

5.00There is no better way to fully experience the Piallassa Baiona than by Giacomo’s excursion by boat! Giacomo showed us the entire lagoon while providing us with very knowledgeable information about the lagoons, the nature and its management. He is very kind, and patiently answered all questions my curious sons asked him about the birds of the area. He did not hesitate to lend his most expensive binoculars to my 15 year old and even surprised us with an aperitif to share, how very friendly! Be sure to book a trip in the evening and Giacomo will show you the most marvellous sunset of the region… excellent value for money, highly recommended!

5.00We loved our experience with Giacomo. It was wonderful getting up close to flamingos and peacocks. Giacomo loaned us binoculars, and we got many good looks through his telescope too. Giacomo was very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this birdwatching experience!

5.00I enjoyed this experience, immensely one of the best things I did during my time in Italy. It was a welcome change from the gorgeous historical sites and amazing food, which is hard to say how can you have a welcome change from that? We saw lots of flamingos and other rare birds our guide was extremely knowledgeable and kind.
A LAGOON TO DISCOVER

5.00We chose the private boat tour at a cost of 100 euros from 18 to 20. Guide Giacomo Benelli was waiting for us at the wharf with his flat-bottomed boat that accompanied us to discover the lagoon of Marina Romea protected natural area. I specify that this is not the usual enthusiast who carries out the activity as a second job but Giacomo is a Pro Guide graduated in Natural Sciences with a master’s degree in management of protected areas as well as native and therefore a profound connoisseur of the lagoon, its evolution over time and its fauna. The activity took place in total safety with life jackets for all child occupants included. The tour lasted two hours and in addition to the visit of the lagoon and flamingo sighting made us visit the island of spinaroni as well as explaining the fishing activity in the lagoon. The tour is very relaxing with wonderful sunset included. Hat and canteen are recommended. Towards the end of the excursion Giacomo also offered us a small aperitif on the boat based on prosecco, water, chips and taralli

5.00This is a wonderful opportunity to see hundreds of flamingoes and other types of birds in the natural setting of a lagoon and wetlands. As we travelled slowly along in Giacomo’s small boat he explained the history of the creation of the lagoon and helped me identify birds. I thought flamingoes are pink but these were white with only hints of pink as they stood in groups in the shallow water. As we got near groups of flamingos they would take off and the pink and black under their wings is so beautiful to see. I was staying in the centre of Ravenna with no car so Giacomo arranged a ride for me there and back for an extra reasonable fee. The driver was also very nice pointing out what we saw on the 30 minute trip to the departure point.

5.00We made the complete tour of the Pialassa Baiona, admired pink flamingos, swans, seacocks, herons, marangoni, knights of Italy and many others... We witnessed a fantastic sunset. Giacomo was nice and professional with us and had a great approach with the little girl. Esperienza sorprendente!!!
