Europe's largest synagogue is a must see in Budapest. With its special architecture, breathtaking interior it fascinates every visitor. During the tour you will see also the Holocaust Cemetery, the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park with the Weeping Willow Tree of Life, the Circle of the Righteous Gentiles, the Heroes' Temple synagogue (unless it is closed for ceremonial preparations).

Please respect the dress code: regular clothing can be worn, however shoulders and thighs must be covered. Legs have to be covered down to the knee before entering, beach-type outfit is not acceptable (cover available for purchase on the spot). Head cover for men is available upon entry.
Visitors must go through a security control. Large backpacks or suitcases are not allowed nor can be stored.

1.00Disappointing. The guide was not professional enough in my opinion. Spoke very fast. Not knowlegable enough to my opinion for such an importent issue of the Jewish community and genocide in hungary. Spoke too much about himself. Total waste of time.

I sincerely thank Flavia for helping us to know and understand the synagogue and Jewish culture. In perfect French, she was generous with information and advice. She was excellent and captivating. Bravo. It was a pleasure to listen to her.

5.00Miki our guide went in depth, proved patient and was generous with his time. The synaguoge per se is very interesting as it combines several influences from within and from outside Judaism proper. We benefitted from a complete overview of Jewish history in Hungary over the last 200 years or so with many captivating insights. Highly recommended.

4.00Women need to have their knees covered and it would have been helpful to have known this in advance. I had to purchase a ‘wrap’ prior to entering the synagogue as I was wearing shorts. Also the guide Milan was very knowledgeable but a little hard to understand.

5.00Exquisite ornate synagogue unlike any others. Our tour guide Flavia was very knowledgeable and passionate adding a lot of additional historical background to the tour. One can only imagine what attending a service would have been like pre Shoah
