You might as well call Budapest “Food-a-pest” because the Hungarian capital is buzzing with delicious restaurants, and on this priority access food tour, we'll help you eat like a local, no planning required.
The tour starts at an old synagogue, as much of Hungarian cuisine is heavily influenced by Jewish culture and tradition.
You'll get the best of both worlds when it comes to the city’s gastronomic scene, from local secrets to high-end spots. First, you’ll try delicious street food like traditional Hungarian soup and Lángos, a deep-fried flatbread, and wash it down with local Dreher beer.
After soaking in the eccentric atmosphere of the city’s party streets, we'll head to fancier spots for a sit-down meal. Taste Hungarian classics like chicken paprikash, a Hungarian comfort food with braised chicken and paprika, and a shot of Pálinka. We'll end the tour with sweet wine from Tokaji, Hungary’s famed wine region, and somlói, a trifle cake with custard.

5.00Great evening tour! It was a small group of seven (two couples and three solo travelers), which made the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. The tour was informative, well-paced, and a great way to explore Budapest without feeling rushed. Eszti was a wonderful host - friendly, quick-witted, intelligent, and with a great sense of humor. She made everyone feel welcome and kept the evening engaging from start to finish. P.S. Don't forget to ask Eszti about her mom's "special lángos"! 😉

2.00Our guide was very good and individually we would give her four stars so that wasn’t the problem. Issue 1 was we paid for a small group tour. 18 very nice folks showed up. Not a small group so either TripAdvisor or Carpe Diem is getting greedy. We expected less than 10. Also, without a quiet box and so many people we were often out of earshot and lost out on local content being offered. Issue 2 was this was advertised as a food and beverages tour. One beer and a very small shot makes part of this statement misleading. We have taken similar tours in Melbourne, Barcelona and Lisbon with TripAdvisor and been very satisfied, so this makes tour doubly disappointing. We think this tour needs a rethink.

5.00We paid for the Carp Diem food Tour in Budapest. We didn’t know what to expect but this tour was incredible. The several places we went to gave us huge portions of true Budapest food and we tried so many great dishes. Most of all, our guide Kelly made it so much fun and provided some great input on the history and current life in Budapest. She was a very special young woman. It appeared that the group of 12 people had a delightful time.

5.00Our tour guide Agnes was absolutely wonderful and made the tour so enjoyable!! Food was amazing and covered all the must-haves of Budapest! Walking around was very nice between spots and the amount of food was perfect at each location to feel satisfied and ready for a little afternoon siesta

5.00We had a brilliant time on the Carpe Diem Budapest food tour. We visited four fantastic venues, each offering something unique and full of character. Our host, Peter, was outstanding and was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and he really took the time to chat with everyone in the group, which made the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. The group made the experience even better. We were joined by two lovely couples, one from Colorado and another from Brisbane and Seattle which created a great mix. Everyone got on really well. The food was a real highlight. We got to try a great mix of traditional Hungarian dishes, including: • Delicious, hearty goulash soup (my absolute favourite) • Freshly made lángos • A rich chocolate cake • And Granny’s chicken paprikash, which was full of flavour My wife absolutely loved it as well, we were both raving about it afterwards. As if that wasn’t enough, the tour also included a nice wee walk through the ruin bars, giving us a taste of Budapest’s unique nightlife and atmosphere. Overall, everything was spot on! great food, great venues, a brilliant group, and an excellent host. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Budapest!
