Ahu Akahanga
From Vaihu, your local guide will take you to Ahu Akahanga, a sacred site where ancient kings once ruled. Located on the southeastern coast of the island, this ceremonial platform remains unrestored—giving you a chance to experience it just as the first European explorers did. The ahu stretches nearly 59 feet (18 meters) and once supported around a dozen moai statues. It’s also believed to be the burial place of Hotu Matu’a, the first Polynesian king to settle Rapa Nui. As you walk the grounds, you'll see toppled moai with their distinctive pukao (stone topknots), a striking reminder of past tribal conflicts.

5.00It was always a dream of mine to visit the Easter Islands. World famous for the statues on the beach and spread all over the island-according to the guide, there are 800 statues. In the past, these were supposed to scare the sailors into not docking on the island - so they were put up as protection for different villages. A unique experience in the National Park (guided only) and throughout the island
