Red Shanked Douc Langurs are endangered primates and almost found only in Vietnam. Son Tra is where these creatures call home

Start time varies based on season to match animals active time Embark on the fascinating world of our most endangered primates, off the beaten track and away from the tourist traps. In an easy, 3 hour-adventure, across twisting mountain road, scenic terrain, we will go into secret spaces that only the Red-Shanked Douc Langurs aka Rare Monkeys know. From encountering sprightly off-springs during breeding-season (March to July) to seeing the adults or alpha male, or just to enjoy the sight of monkeys being monkeys, you’ll learn how to tell a "she" from a "he", how to tell their age, and also participate in real-time research by helping to collect data about the monkey we encounter. We will meet a supporting cast of forest creatures; birds, colorful butterflies, plants, or sometimes mongoose. On the trail we travel, I'll find chances to have a conversation with local animal photographers. We can hear the insights and see their amazing photos from them for a better understand of the monkey . Not only we go finding rare animals but also have opportunity to see an amazing hidden sceneries of Monkey Mountain, secret beach, altogether will combine to make our trip full of surprises.

5.00Cillian and Alan provided us with a great experience—taking the moped out to the mountains was super cool, and we were able to see so many monkeys!! We took the 5:30am trip and were able to see many monkeys at various parts of the mountain, lasting about 3 hours. It was a small and personable experience, my sister and I the only guests. The troops, especially the baby monkeys, were the cutest and most wondrous things ever. The guides seemed really familiar with the area, and our group felt welcomed by them. We observed the monkeys quietly so they could remain relaxed. We would definitely recommend this excursion. Plus, they take professional photos of the monkeys to share with you afterwards. Since we are staying outside of their usual pickup bounds, we paid a bit extra for the roundtrip ride but didn’t mind (100,000 vnd per guide). They also offered a meet-up option in case we didn’t want to pay the fee. Definitely check out these beautiful animals if you’re in Da Nang. Great for individuals or small groups.

5.00As a solo traveler, I was happy to join another two from Germany on an exquisite Safari tour of the mountains near Da Nang. We were looking for the Red Shanked Langur monkey. My guide Leo was not only a very good scooter driver, but also fantastically knowledgeable about the monkeys. He informs me that there are about 3,000 of these monkeys in the world and between half and 2/3 of these live in the mountain ranges above Da Nang. He was able to tell me what they ate, what predators there were, and how the monkeys formed social groupings. In all a distinctly unique to to and Leo and the other two guides made the experience super.

5.00We had booked the afternoon tour and were picked up by our guides at the hotel. Cillian and Vi were very attentive, and we were able to see some monkeys from a short distance. We also had the opportunity to connect with researchers. Everything was well organized, and we can highly recommend the tour. A unique experience!

5.00We had a fantastic early morning trip with Cillian to see the Red Shanked Douc Langur Monkeys. They were here early to pick us up directly from the hotel and did a fantastic job of transporting us around safely on the back of two motor cycles. His passion, excitement and education about the species made this an unforgettable experience. I would recommend this tour to anyone that is interested in seeing this extremely cool primate. We also received some amazing pictures at the end of the tour which made the whole experience more enjoyable because we did not have to worry about capturing anything on our cells phones and could just enjoy the ride. I would rate this tour a 10/10

5.00Definitely a highlight of my trip! Guides were knowledgeable and friendly. It was my first time riding a motor bike and felt completely safe. Such an amazing experience to have seen the Red Shanked Langur it it’s natural habitat! Our guides answered all our questions and helped us take amazing photos. This is a MUST for anyone travelling to Da Nang. Thanks Leo!!!!

5.00Cillian was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable and passionate about the monkeys and also other wildlife in the area. It was a great experience and I am very grateful to see these amazing animals. I would fully recommend this trip to anyone in the area and I would definitely do this again.

5.00Time and money well spent! This has been one of the nicest things to experience in Vietnam for me. The organisation and communication all through was flawless, I was picked up in time on a comfy bike, my guide Leo was a gem! Real good driver and a monkey whisperer - he spotted them long before I could see them. Also really important that the tour truly is respectful to nature and the critically endangered animals. It was observation and admiration from distance, with the least possible disturbance. Something that is rare to find these days. The guide would even turn off the motorbike engine while going down hill, to avoid disturbance and also listen to the nature. He was calm, easy going and knew his staff! I learned a lot about the monkeys from him. Apart from seeing the beautiful monkeys, the ride through the jungle is also really nice and enjoyable. Thank you so much, I wish you (and also the monkeys) very good luck with everything. The photos added are the ones that Leo has shared with me from our adventure! Thanks for that also!

5.00Extremely great experience. The tour guides are very passionate about nature and they keep the tour very ethical, making sure we are not disturbing the monkeys. We saw heaps of different families and would 100% do this tour again when we come back.
