Step beyond the usual cities and discover Lukomir, the last traditional Bosnian nomad village, where life still follows customs passed down for centuries. Located at 1,495 meters above sea level, it is the highest inhabited village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and views over the Rakitnica Canyon.
On the way, you will pass through the peaceful village of Umoljani and see Studeni Potok, a unique stream that curves through the landscape like a snake. In Lukomir, you will enjoy a homemade lunch with a local family, tasting authentic traditional dishes, including vegetarian options.
In winter, if possible, the experience becomes even more special with a snowshoeing adventure through the snowy mountains. This tour is not only about nature, but about meeting local people and experiencing a way of life that still lives on in the Bosnian highlands.

We had a fantastic day on the tour. Ahmed was our guide and he was very kind and helpful! We started the day around 8/8:30 and drove about an hour up to our hiking starting point. We then had some Bosnian coffee before starting our journey! The hike to the village was gorgeous. It was about a 4-5 mile hike there and then we came back the same way for a round trip of around 10 miles. The hike itself was pretty challenging with numerous inclines and going up and down rocks, which could be steep at some points. I would highly recommend you wear appropriate clothing and shoes and bring lots of water and some snacks. We arrived at the village around 12-1pm and had an amazing lunch that we paid for individually. After lunch we had time to explore the village before heading back. I would expect to get back to your stay closer to 6. Would highly recommend the tour and would do again :)

An absolute 5-star experience from start to finish! Our guide made our trek to Lukomir truly unforgettable by bringing the history of Bosnia’s highest village to life with incredible storytelling. They knew every inch of the trail along the Rakitnica Canyon, kept us perfectly safe, and even connected us with locals for the best authentic pita and Bosnian coffee. If you are planning to hike Bjelasnica, booking this guide is the best decision you can make!

We had a very special day although we had a little different expectation with the idea of a 'moderate hike'. One had some balance problems, the other was afraid of heights and we were definitely the oldest in the group. The guide said monter, well at least you can walk. We feared that we were holding up the group quite a bit, but that group made for an unforgettable day. Everyone was so sweet and helpful, it was like team building with a motivational coach. We saw others whizz past the group like true mountain goats, complete with whistle, knife, rope, and pointing to my shoes 'no good'. But we had lovely people with us, who said 'you can do more than you think'. And so we conquered impossible rocky paths, one enjoying the beautiful mountains, the other avoiding looking into the canyon. In Lukomir we also found such lovely people, they said without you tourists the village would no longer exist, and I was just offered a juice by a sock knitter. Back in the car, guide Ahmed turned into a DJ and we enjoyed his music. Either way, I'll always remember this day when I hear Boney M's song. Ra Ra Ra Rasputin......

Phenomenal experience! Communication regarding tour details and hostel pickup was great. The experience itself was very unique and our guide was friendly, informative, and made the hike fun. The meal in the village was the best I had during my entire Bosnia trip! Excellent value.

What a day! We had high expectations for this hike, but it far exceeded them. From the first step we were surrounded by magical views: mighty mountains, green meadows, forests and panoramic views that made us stop time and time again just to take it all in. The pictures are amazing, but they still do not do justice to the landscape. After about three hours of hiking we were served a fantastic lunch. To sit down in the middle of this environment and enjoy really good food was an experience in itself. It tasted just as good as you hope after a few hours hiking in the mountains. A big thank you to our guide Adi, who made the day even better. Knowledgeable, committed, professional and pleasant. If you want to experience Bosnia's nature at its best, this is a must. A perfect combination of magnificent views, local culture, good food and fantastic hosting. An experience we will remember for a long time.

It was unique and absolutely amazing experience! The tour was well balanced, our guide Ahmet was very carrying, he found time to speak with everyone of the group so no one felt left behind. Along the way he was explaining things and sharing his knowledge with all of us, also helping to overcome most difficult parts of the route. The views along the way are astonishing and breathtaking. The old ladies of Lukomir were friendly and you can get a cool hat or authentic gloves for winter season from them! I highly recommend this tour for all pure nature lovers and explorers. Also good thing to keep in mind is that by participating in this tour you are also supporting local community and people of Lukomir. Thank you Meet Bosnia Tours for a wonderful experience!

During my recent trip to Bosnia, I had very much been looking forward to this hike, and I was not at all disappointed. I booked it through Meet Bosnia tours, and appreciated their flexibility when I asked to reschedule the tour due to the weather forecast on the day I had originally scheduled it, which called for rain. When I did join the tour three days later, I was very pleased with the experience. Our guide, Ahmed, was excellent: he was experienced (this was his 73rd hike that he has led in this area), helpful, and friendly....in short, someone who it was a real pleasure to spend a day hiking with. Our tour group numbered four people, in addition to Ahmed, and covered about 16 kilometers (round trip), hiking between the trailhead in Umoljani and the village of Lukomir. The scenery was varied, starting out in a meadow with a stream running through it, but eventually leading us gradually uphill through forests, and then above the tree line (at about 1,500 meters elevation), and to some stunning views of the snow-covered mountains across the valley of Rakitnica canyon. Being spring, we were also treated to a variety of wildflowers along the path. When we reached Lukomir, we had a delicious lunch of traditional Bosnian fare at Captain Teo's, a restaurant that while rustic in appearance, had a variety of dishes to choose from, served with freshly baked bread (they also sell their own brand of rakija for sale, if you'd like to buy a bottle or two to bring back with you). Following lunch, we had time to explore the village, and for those who wished, to buy some woolen goods from some of the friendly locals. It took us about 2.5 hours to get back to Umoljani, and by the time we did, we were pleasantly tired and full of good memories. All in all, I'd rate this hike as the highlight of my trip to Bosnia.

Went with MeetBosnia for the Lukomir hike and it was amazing! Ahmed was our tour guide, and he was incredibly helpful and clearly very skilled at what he does. My mom joined me as she wanted to challenge herself, and it ended up being one of her favorite activities we did in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Huge thanks to Ahmed and the team for an awesome experience!

We had such a great experience with Ahmed our tour guide. He was very informative and helpful to us beginners. We came all the way from Canada and he made our time worth the while. I would definitely recommend. I suggest brining waterproof shoes and a raincoat/jacket. Otherwise you will be good
