The game drive usually takes place in the early morning or late afternoon, when wildlife is most active. During this time, the air is cool, and animals come out to feed or move around. As guests travel through the open landscapes of the lodge, they can experience the beauty of the Botswana bush, including rolling hills, open valleys, and natural vegetation. During the drive, visitors may encounter a variety of animals that live in the area. While Big Valley Game Lodge does not focus on large predators, guests can see animals such as zebras, ostriches, antelope, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. These sightings provide a peaceful and educational experience, especially for those interested in nature and conservation. The animals are often calm and move freely, allowing visitors to observe their natural behavior without disturbance. A trained guide leads each game drive, sharing knowledge about the animals, plants, and surroundings.

The area is also known for its crocodiles and hippos, which are often seen resting along the riverbanks or moving through the water. Viewing wildlife from the boat offers a safe and unique perspective, perfect for photography and relaxed sightseeing. Led by experienced local guides, the cruise includes informative commentary on the ecosystem, wildlife behavior, and conservation efforts. Teddy was an excellent guide. The people who took us through the animals park and on the boat were knowledgeable and friendly. Everything was perfect and made this a fun trip to Gaborone.

The guide is the best tour guide ever, very knowledgeable about the region and able to answer every question and recommend the best food for lunch. The guide in the sanctuary will drive you around searching for animals so keep your camera ready. The boat captain knows almost every bird that ever flew through Botswana apparently 70% of the 200 birds and 30% of their bird calls. (That’s what he said.) Good relaxing experience.
