The top of Poon Hill is one of the best places to gaze at the Himalayas in Nepal. Trek to the summit and see how beautiful the big wall in the north looks from here.
Poon Hill is a mountain of its own accord but is dwarfed in the presence of the Himalayan range. From the top of the hill, at an elevation of more than 10,000 feet, you can see the Annapurna massif together with adjacent peaks. So this trip combines both mountaineering and sightseeing. The beautiful villages and the pristine forests we walk through during the trip add to the experience.
Altitude – From 4,600 feet at Kathmandu to 10,535 feet at Poon Hill
Difficulty –There are four days of intense trekking in this trip. You will have to walk for five to six hours each day so you need to be fit. Light endurance training or previous hiking experience is recommended before embarking on this trip.
Service animals allowed
Public transportation options are available nearby
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
You have to bring all your trekking equipment by yourself. See our standard equipment list below. If you forget anything, you can purchase these in Kathmandu or rent it for the trip from us for a small fee.
Please make sure you take a travel insurance at home before arriving here. It is mandatory and you cannot take it in Nepal. Your insurance agent will know which insurance plan suits your travel.
It is advisable that you free up a few days before and after your trip schedule. For reasons beyond our control like flight delays, accidents and natural hazards, the itinerary may have to be altered.
Please inform us and our guides if you have any medical condition that might affect your trip. Please consult your doctor beforehand for any precautions you need to take and always carry medicines if you need them. However, our guides and local support staff have been trained in basic medical intervention and your travel insurance covers any emergency rescue or evacuation.
You may decide to alter your itinerary to some degree as long as there are no time constraints and everyone consents, if you are travelling in a group. Talk to us before embarking on the trip or you may also talk to our guides to see if we can arrange something. One thing we have learned from mountaineering all these years is however good you plan your journey, there are bound to be some improvisations to make our experience richer.

My husband and I have recently completed the trek through mountain kick to poon hill. Upon arrival to Kathmandu airport we had come to realise our luggage was not on our flight. Kumar our trek leader was there to pick us up and called and spoke with the plane companies on several occasions for us organising them on the next available flight. From this moment on we knew that we had found someone special to take us on our trek of a lifetime, someone that really cared. Nothing on our trip was too much hassle for Kumar or his porter Tule. On our trek as well, Kumars knowledge of the mountains and local people meant that when we didnt see sunrise at Poon Hill as planned (monsoon season) he changed a couple of nights stay around which meant we ended up staying right under Annapurna south and getting a secret view of the mountains not many people seemed to know about. This is the benefit of going with a local guide over a big corporation they just know these things. At conclusion we have both made a friend for life and would recommend Mountain Kick again and again for anyone who wants to feel at home, at ease and really have the most hassle free special time in Nepal that is possible!! 11/10 thanks again Mountain Kick!
