This trip will take you on one of Norway’s most popular and spectacular hikes. It is for good reason that this hike has gained its popularity with visitors to Norway and locals alike. Situated only a few hours from Stavanger, Pulpit Rock - or Preikestolen in Norwegian - is a towering cliff-plateau directly suspended over Lysefjorden. To stand (or sit) so close to the edge is probably the moment that hikers look forward to the most, although it is no easy deed. The top offers unobstructed views over the meandering blue fjord that was formed by the glaciers during the last Ice Age, making it a good spot to enjoy a photo session and possibly a light snack.

The opportunity to hike Pulpit Rock was amazing but was easily doable without a guide as you can take a bus from Stavanger for $33 USD ea way (which we would have done if I had known this first). While we had a friendly guide, we experienced transportation issues on the drive to Pulpit Rock and the car got stranded in the parking lot and would not go into gear. We had to push the vehicle into a parking spot and take the bus back to Stavanger. Of course things happen but it was the way it was handled. I don’t recommend this tour company.

The tour guide showed up in front of our hotel right at time. She’s very chill and detail oriented. She would introduce some history of Norway during the hike. Also introduce us some local plants. We learned a lot and had a bunch of cool picture on the top. Best view ever at Norway. The hike is very manageable even if you’re not physically strong.

Paul was incredibly prompt to pick us up at our hotel, which was so convenient. He led a great tour and was very responsive to the needs and hiking abilities of the group. And he took fabulous photos of each of us that we will have forever! The route down was especially beautiful as he got us away from the many people hiking the regular trail and let us experience the sights and sounds of the mountain without the crowds.

The tour basically consisted of a car ride to the entrance of El Pulpito. The guide did not provide us with any information about the place or comments about the country at any time. In my case, since I walked quickly, I got separated from the group. So it was basically a car tour. The worst part was when they tried to charge me for the rain jacket. The agency changed the day of the tour, and I had already accepted it. But they did not have the courtesy to waive the payment considering it was a tour on my own. I did not feel that the guide was prepared; he was friendly but more of a driver. In short, go on your own; I made the mistake of not informing myself more and lost almost 100 dollars.

I enjoyed the hiking a lot. The view was so stunning and it just made you stay there longer watching how Norway has combined itself so inclusively and incredibly with Nature. Nature itself is full of power full of attractions. When you really come here, your mind will calm down coz you will admire and be amazed how sensational Nature is. Ofz you will be excited in front of such a pure view shaped by time by history by everything from Nature itself. Needa mention our guide Ken ( not sure if I spelled it correctly loll ) who is so helpful and responsible. He is on time for the pick up. He guided us all the way and prepared food. Thank you Ken.

It is brutally difficult and not recommended for amateur hikers or those not in good physical shape. But it is a unique experience and thrilling and beautiful at the top. Definitely recommend using poles and focus down where you place every step.

Our guide (Kenth) was great! He was helpful and made sure we were wearing the right type of clothing and hiking shoes. I have a fear of heights, everything was fine but 100 meters before Pulpit Rock I stopped and stayed put. Kenth guided our group to Pulpit Rock, then came back for me. Thanks Kenth, you made our day!!!

A incredible view at the top. Kurt was great- we had a chill time with him on not an easy hike - was definitely grateful for hiking boots with high ankle support. Kurt kindly stopped to show us some petroglyphs on the way home too. We avoided the crowds by going early so got some cool photos too! Thanks!
