Join this tour to visit two of New Zealand’s most famous attractions, Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Caves, in one easy day trip from Auckland. Our tour is the new extended Hobbiton Experience (now 2.5 hours) where you can venture beyond the door to a fully themed Hobbit Hole interior. Immerse yourself in the interior with entry hall, bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining area, equipped bathroom, parlour and crackling fireplace. Be fascinated as the magical world of Hobbiton comes to life and take photos in front of your favourite places like the Hobbit Holes, the Shire and the Green Dragon Inn. Then journey to the World Famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves and be captivated by the thousands of magical glowworms twinkling in the Grottos, the stalactites and stalagmites as you glide silently through the cave by boat. Marvel at the stunning scenery en route as we journey off the motorways into the real hinterland of New Zealand. All admission fees and cafe lunch included.

There is no photography allowed in the area of the Caves where the glowworms are as the glowworms react negatively to flashlight and will turn their lights off and they then take 2 hours to return to their full luminescence.
Tour leaves Auckland at 6:30am with everyone on board-the pickups occur across the CBD in the 25 minutes prior to that

After leaving Auckland you will travel south over the Bombay Hills as you get elevated panoramic views of the Waikato Region and travel across the scenic Hauraki Plains to Matamata, the home of Hobbiton Movie Set.
Hobbiton Movie Set
Begin with a tour through the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across the Kaimai Ranges. Your guide will escort you through the 10 acre site recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie Set was created. Hobbit Holes, The Green Dragon Inn, The Mill and other structures can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into the Shire from Middle-earth. Visit and explore inside the newly built fully themed Hobbit Hole on Bagshot Row. Complimentary specially brewed beverages are available at the Green Dragon Inn as you complete your tour. Afterwards, enjoy a very classic light “Kiwi” style lunch at the "Homestead" and get to share stories from Hobbiton and interact with your fellow travellers.

5.00Our tour guide, Mike, was very friendly and professional. He made sure everyone in the group felt welcome and really made the atmosphere in the bus great. I mainly went for the Hobbiton experience and found it exceeded expectations. The glow worm cave was also really impressive. The day has been such a highlight of my whole holiday I am really glad I went.

5.00It was a unique experience to get to know two such wonderful places, Hobbiton and Waitomo Caves, in one day. There was enough time to look at everything calmly. The information was very interesting and understandable. It was incredibly fun, and Nelson showed us so many beautiful things on the drive with his cheerful manner!

5.00An easy pick-up, and an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable guide / bus driver, nice breaks with good catering, and an unforgettable visit to Hobbiton, with a fantastic experience of the landscape, the very scenery and the village and the whole story behind its creation + a truly skillful and friendly guide. Next a beautiful, quiet and very atmospheric experience in the caves with another truly skilled guide, introduction to the caves' discovery, the development of the place - and singing in the dark cathedral. Finally, a visit to a honey producer and an introduction to the special and aromatic manuka honey. A truly unforgettable trip, and even super cute fellow travellers, in the 15-person bus!

5.00Was a fabulous day. Our guide Liam was excellent and made surebhe got to know everyone in the group. Despite bucketing rain, Hobbiton was amazing and didnt think it could get any better, but glow worm caves were very special.

5.00This was one of the best tours I have ever done. Our tour guide Rachel was such a good guide and such a lovely, friendly and intelligent woman. Hobbiton was out of this world and the caves were so magical. I’d do it again tomorrow if I could. The stop for an early coffee as the sun came up and then another stop for Hokey Pokey ice-cream at sunrise was the cherry on top. The peaceful music playing on the bus was fab as were all the facts we got along the way! It was my first day in NZ and I was blown away by how sound and kind and genuine Kiwis are. I had an unforgettable day💚💚

5.00A very worthwhile day trip from Auckland. Our guide/driver was punctual with pick up and all of our stops. The tour started with a brief bathroom stop before arriving at Hobbiton. Our driver gave us tickets and clear instructions on our bus time to get into Hobbiton, which gave us time for bathroom break and shop at the gift shop. The Hobbiton tour is done by their staff while our guide waited and picked us up at the end of the tour. Amazing experience with our Hobbiton guide very knowledgeable of the set, followed by a brief break at the Green Dragon Inn with a complimentary drink. Afterwards we had provided lunch at a diner-like stop. You're allowed a select drink and two select plates (pies, sandwiches, cakes, etc.). Then we drove straight to Waitomo Caves where similarly their staff does the tour while our driver waits. Note that pictures and videos are not allowed in the caves, which is unfortunate but understandable. It was my birthday and we were able to sing happy birthday in the cathedral part of the cave with good acoustics, which would have been nice to record. The boat ride itself was quite magical as it was very dark and like looking at the stars. After the tour, we had a brief bathroom stop at a local honey store before going straight back to Auckland. Great day overall!
