For all those interested in trying the Icelandic horse, a trek on the hardy, sure-footed Icelandic horse is an experience to remember. Whether you are a beginner or expert, old or young, these friendly horses with their alert and willing nature are indeed a pleasure to ride in their natural surroundings.

You will be picked up at your hotel or guesthouse in Reykjavik and drive only 15 minutes away to your horse riding destination. You will then get all basic gear, such as helmets, boots and rain clothes (snowsuits in wintertime). Information will be gathered about how much you have been riding and so the proper horse will be matched to your experience. After the ride we will take you back to your hotel or guesthouse.

The staff was incredibly nice and the horses were beautiful. The horseback ride was lovely and very relaxing. We had a wonderful time - definitely recommend this experience.

I booked a ride for my mother, my sister, and myself. While I am an experienced rider, they are not. But they absolutely enjoyed it and it was something people of all ages and experience could do together. The facility is in a beautiful setting and we rode the back country up to a river. It was lightly raining, but it was not a deterrent and anyone who needed extra gear or gloves had it available to them. We also had a issue with our booking time because we were arriving directly in our own car and not on bus pick up, but they were able to easily accommodate us for an afternoon ride instead and it all worked out amazing which I’m so happy for. I would recommend this to anyone as a great way to see a part of the country that you want from the roadside.

The pickup was smooth and at arrival we were met by friendly staff that helped us find helmets that fit. We split up into two groups (one for advanced riders and one for the less experienced or novices. My husband went with the less experienced group- all the horses were stars, very well behaved and they still tried some tølt. I rode in the experienced group- we were about 7 in total and had a blast! Really well ridden horses and the tølt came easy for them. And the gallops too. They were happy to stretch their legs. After the ride we were served coffee or tea and hung around and talked with the owner before we got a ride back into town. A great experience, well loved herd, and beautiful scenic riding. Highly recommend!

What a special place! The pick up was very prompt and all of the guides and staff are incredibly friendly, including the owner. It feels like an immense privilege to be able to go here and experience the Icelandic horses on such a beautiful farm with so much incredibly history. I opted for the advanced ride since I have a considerable amount of riding experience, so we got to gallop by the river and see the beautiful Spring scenery in a smaller group. This was certainly the highlight of my trip and I would 100% do it again. You can tell this farm cares deeply for their horses and the cherished heritage.

Riding horses in the countryside with great tour guides. Everyone was nice and friendly. It was also nice that they split the group up for some experience riders to do a bit more faster pace.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Our tour guide was brilliant and shared so much interesting information, not just about the Icelandic horses but about Iceland in general.

Our two guides were great! They knew a lot about the horses we rode, about farming and agriculture, and about Iceland in general. The Laxnes Farm owner was fun to chat with after the ride and full of fun facts! I highly recommend this activity for experienced horse people as well as beginners. Getting to experience the tolt was great!!

The Laxnes horseback riding trip was so much fun. The staff was very professional and knowledgeable. We felt very comfortable riding even though it has been quite a few years since we last rode. The scenery was beautiful.
