Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre
At historic Dalkey Castle (1390), Costumed Living History Actors bring the ancient history to colorful life with archery, barber surgery and a cook giving a masterclass on circular economy (nothing was wasted) in medieval times, as part of every guided tour. Tour also includes exploration of the atmospheric 10th Century St Begnet's church & graveyard connected with the site. The heritage center is also included with interactive screens in different languages & scale models. A Writers’ Gallery features interactive panels of the work of 45 locally connected creative artists from James Joyce to Bono and Samuel Beckett to Maeve Binchy. Climb to the battlements for magnificent views of the surrounding stunning landscape view of the sea and mountains. If you are with a larger group, perhaps add on a guided walk. Tours every 90 minutes.

5.00Superb! The team at Dalkey Castle really bring history to life with their lively reenactment of castle life in the Middle Ages. The tour lasts over an hour and is immersive. Minota, Rupert and the others were friendly, welcoming and very educational. Would definitely return.

5.00I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoyed the interactive tour of Dalkey Castle! For me, it was the highlight of our trip to Dublin. The heritage center has done an amazing job of highlighting the history of Dalkey which is synonymous with the history of Ireland itself. The film before the tour was excellent. Then we learned more about the castle and its church ruins during which we interacted with 3 actors describing medieval life. They were just fantastic -- engaging, funny, and full of information! I learned so much while being thoroughly entertained. Dalkey itself is a gem and the views from the top of the castle were so beautiful! I would definitely recommend prioritizing a trip to Dalkey and a tour of the castle!

5.00This was an amazing experience and look back at some of the history of Dalkey and Ireland. The actors/actresses were wonderful in portraying their roles in the castle and interacting with guests. I highly recommend this tour experience for anyone. I also want to specifically recognize Maeve, who was very responsive and flexible with adjusting our tour time multiple times due to cruise-related delays. She is amazing!

5.00This was fantastic! So informative. The guide was so knowledgeable and the performers were so wonderful. Even with a few people who kept interrupting, they improvised their way out of it. Well done everyone! Well worth it!

5.00We really enjoyed our tour of the castle. The idea of the actors really added an extra dimension. We loved the way they interacted with the visitors. It was all was organised and the presentation was excellent. We'd young teenagers with us and they really enjoyed it. Excellent value for money and the length of the tour was perfect. All the staff were friendly and professional.
Very interesting and entertaining experience of Dalkey Castle. We learned about the history of the area & the people.

5.00ChatGPT recommended this visit! 😆 and I can’t thank it enough - I didn’t read any reviews beforehand and we just turned up after a short Dart journey from where we were staying in the marina in Dun Laoghaire. We were welcomed by the staff at the desk and were told the next tour was 45 minutes later - as we chatted, the previous group finished there tour and came into the reception, all of them beaming and saying how great it was. It really was great, it was a wonderful interactive Theatre production, we learnt so much not only about the history of the castle, but also about this part of Ireland many years ago. I won’t say too much about the experience, because I want you to enjoy the surprises too! Just go, you won’t regret it - well done to all the team involved at the Heritage Centre.
