The Sham Valley trek—also known as the “Baby Trek”—is a short 3-day trek perfect for beginners, or those hoping to do a bit of warm up before a more strenuous adventure. Don’t let the name deter you; though one of the easier treks in Ladakh, the Sham Valley trek is tiring at times due to the altitude, and you’ll certainly break a sweat. A basic level of fitness is still required, but we highly recommend it for anyone looking for a short or beginner trek in Ladakh.

Drive from Leh to Likir (58km).Trek from Likir to Yangthang (04-05hrs)
Likir
Morning after breakfast you will be driven by taxi to Likir which is just 58 kms away. Likir Village (3650 mts.) is the starting point of our trek. Although the distance is short, the route is warm, without any shade or water and we need to traverse two passes.
Rizong Monastery and Jelichun Nunnery
From Likir the route heads west up to Phobe La (3580m) and beyond this lies Sumdo village. The trail goes steadily upwards till you get to Chagatse La (3630m). The Ridzong Monastery lies about an hour south of Yangthang. Night stay at a Homestay in Yangthang .
Yangthang to Hemis Shukpachen across Tsermang-chen La (8 km.; 2/3 hours)
Today is an easy walk despite the pass because both the approach and the descent are of gentle gradients. The trail heads north, descending for a bit, crossing a stream before climbing up west again to Tsermangchen La (3750m). After a short rest at the pass we head down to Hemis Shukpachen. The village, named after the grove of cedars, is one of Ladakh’s prettiest. There are several sparkling streams surrounded by shady willows and large barley fields that provide a touch of green to the otherwise desolate, Rocky Mountains. Night stay at a Homestay in Hemis Shukpachen.
Hemis Shukpachen to Temisgam across Mebtak La (10 km. 3 hrs)
Pine Forest in Ang Village
Again this is a fairly easy day. The trail goes upward between two hillocks west of the village upwards until it veers south and climbs steeply up to the Mebtak La (3750m) marked by prayer flags. From the pass we head down the gorge to Ang village. Our driver will meet you in And and will drive you back to Leh. End of tour.

5.005 days 4 nights trek, sham valley, with private guide Sonam, from dreamland trek and tour. An unforgettable adventure with Sonam our private guide, really professional and always very careful. He has always offered the best option. The agency, professional also, they have heard our comments and offer us the best option. Good driver also I can only highly recommend their services

5.00Although the trek is not very difficult, but the incredible landscap with mountains and streams is just incredible. We had done couple of treks in the western ghats and Himachal before but this one is just so different and on top of that our local support from the people at Ladakh Backpackers was just amazing with everything planned nicely by them. Looking forward for the Markha Valley next time with them.

5.00How a tour guide became a friend! Great Service and perfect memories from the roof of the world I take with me. Mr. Fida Tangerhong is fluent in German. He is very familiar with the mountain region and knows a lot about the nature and culture of this breathtaking mountain world. A very sporty young man who is perfectly prepared responds to the wishes of his customers... I liked the tour so much that I booked other promotions with him - like a city walk through Leh etc. He helps with all matters such as bus tickets to Srinagar (Kashmir), tips what is interesting to see in the Indus or Nubra Valley, innerline permits and sharing group taxis. Booking domestic joining and accommodation is also possible throughout India. Fida Tagerhong knows Delhi very well and showed me through his tips that Delhi also has really nice sides. Conclusion: Highly recommended - I would book with him again every time. Remember, quality costs everywhere and it is often fatal just to look at the price, because the atmosphere and well-being on holiday is important. They're not being ripped off at Fida Tangerhong.

5.00We did a three day Trek and had a really nice experience. Our guide, So-nam was experienced, very kind and patient. The accommodation throughout the route was of a high standard (especially for home stays). The route we took was extremely beautiful and it felt like we had the mountains to our selves. Would really recommend this company!

5.00Many thanks to Ladakh Backpakers for their advices before my arrival and for the organization of my trek. I highly recommend this agency for any trek you wish to plan in Ladakh. Everything was well organized and even I travelled on my own, they could easily fit me in one group. Before my arrival I compared the prices of a large amount of agencies and Ladakh Backpackers was one of the cheapest agency. Fida one of the team member, was very nice and helpful. Thank you again for all the help, which made my stay in Ladakh so great. I will surely come back to Ladakh next year and ask you guys to organize a new trek for me.
