Mdina, Malta's former capital is situated on a hilltop in the central part of the island and dominates over two - thirds of Malta. It is one of Europe's finest examples of an ancient fortified city, characterized by medieval and baroque architecture. Known by the locals as the " Silent City", it encloses within its walls palaces belonging to Maltese aristocratic families, the majority of which are secondary homes.
Walking through Mdina you will feel as though the city has been frozen in time; its narrow winding streets, majestic palaces, churches and courtyards make this city unique, a must-see during your stay in Malta!
Rabat, a suburb of Mdina, is also a historical town with strong religious ties. According to tradition during his 3 months stay in Malta, St Paul the Apostle lived in a grotto beneath the parish church.Your guide will lead you along some of the most typical street in Rabat highlighting the most important architectural features as you go along.

Mdina Old City
Meet your guide at the Main Gate of Mdina. Your guide will be holding a City Walking Tours Malta. During this walk we guide you through this enchanting town, past the most important palaces, convents, churches and typical streets. This 2 hour walk is the most comprehensive Mdina / Rabat walk and has been planned so as not to miss out on anything worth seeing in the area. Rabat is just a stone throw away so we will also cover the old quarter where you can enjoy Maltese vernacular architecture. Our walk will end up at St. Paul's square in Rabat center. This walk is wheelchair friendly.

5.00Our guide Christine was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour of Mdina and Rabat allowed us to experience the true historical Malta. Christine shared various anecdotes about the island's history, creating an atmosphere of conviviality. We appreciated her suggestions on where to have lunch. The visit to Rabat was less engaging compared to Mdina, but perhaps that was due to the characteristics of the place. Our group was entirely composed of Italians. Thank you, Christine. 5.00We really enjoyed the walking tour of Mdina with Nadine. She was very knowledgeable - we learned more about Malta overall and Mdina in particular during those two hours than we did in the rest of our week on Malta. Meeting instructions were clear, headsets helpful for following commentary without disturbing others around us. Suggestions for things to see after the tour, and for pastizzi from Crystal Palace, were very helpful. Great value for the price too!

5.00What a marvelous tour. Our tour guide was wonderful. She knew so much about not only the Historical past of Mdina, but also more recent fun facts. She was very accommodating and insightful and set a comfortable pace. The tour covered many interesting stops and the timing didn't keep us in the sun too much (but wear sunscreen, regardless). A lovely way to learn the history. I don't thing wandering the city unescorted would be even remotely as fun.

5.00This was our first tour in Malta and it led us to book with City of Malta Walking tours for the Valletta tour too! I highly recommend this tour. Our guide Marisa was wonderful, very down to earth and funny at times she gave a great insight into Mdina and Rabat..What a beautiful place! The audio and earpiece set supplied was a great addition. Mdina can be windy but we could hear everything. Thank you Marisa! It was very enjoyable
