Mitawali is a village where the popular Chausath Yogini Temple lies - The temple is perched atop a hill surrounded by the lush greenery. A climb of approximately 100 steps will take you to the beauty of this splendid round temple. The striking views will definitely have you reaching for your camera too!
The notable Padavali fortress was built in the 18th century by the Jat Ranas rulers of Dhaulpur. Graciously guarded by a lion and lioness, the fort also has a temple that once served as a divine place to worship Lord Shiva. Every stone used in the fortification and in the making of the temple has something to convey about the ancient era through its inscription and detailing!
The site is not just about one temple; the Bateshwar temples are a cluster of almost 200 mini grandeurs made of sandstone, devoted to lords Shiva and Vishnu. Spread over 25 acres, these shrines were built across slanted hills near Padavali.

Absolutely exquisite and worth every minute. Stunning to see the concept, mitavli in fact is in excellent condition. It's barely one hour from Gwalior and whole excursion is about 4 hours so easily manageable. Padavli speaks of an unspoken habitation and is mesmerizing and Bateshwar temple is in ruins but there is enough to imagine it's erstwhile glory. I would go here anyday over Jhansi fort which you are not allowed entry and you just have to depend of the guides imagination. Pls go before early March for best weather

We were actually spell bound. All the 3 places are like crazy. It simply displays the rich architecture and a civilisation much much ahead of todays times.

Bateshwar is definitely the centre piece of the excursion. Being restored since 2007,the complex is awesome. The randomly located stones tell the story of a bygone era. Painstakingly restored, piece by piece, temples coming to life is a strange feeling. As I walked around, I saw witness to the efforts being made to reconstruct two more temples. The expanse of the ruins makes one think of the importance of the place. The very few visitors limits the facilities at the site. How i wish more publicity would make the place more attractive. Nearby Padawali and Mitawali are also extremely worthy of a visit.
