This is not a standard overview of Dubrovnik’s history.
It is a structured walk through the Old Town focused on how the city functioned — through the lives of its people, the systems they built, and the decisions that shaped the Republic.
We move beyond dates and architectural styles into the logic behind them: how space was used, how class relationships worked, how social rules were enforced, and how everyday life was organized.
You will hear about beliefs, customs, and relationships between citizens and the ruling class — not as isolated facts, but as part of a coherent system that allowed Dubrovnik to operate at a high level for centuries.
Architecture is part of the story, but always with context — why it was built that way, what purpose it served, and what it reveals about the mindset of the time.

Pile Gate
This is the entrance to the Old Town and in the area between two gates you will find out about defence capabilities of the most heavily fortified city in Europe. Also we will take a look at the map representing the damage done to the Old Town during the siege in the 1990's and hear a few words about Croatian Independence War.

In Old Town's main street the guests will have opportunity to hear a story regarding most of stunning pieces of architecture present in the town itself. St. Saviours church, Franciscan monastery with one of oldest working pharmacies in the world, a marvel of medieval engineering - Onofrio's fountain and hear about stories, legends and ancient customs connected with each one.

5.00Before that, in addition to the interesting key facts about the city, we had many exciting anecdotes about Dubrovnik. We had many questions, all of which he could answer with his extensive knowledge. The walk with him was educational and entertaining. It was also important for us that we could book the private tour at 9am if it is not so hot yet.
