The north district of Capitol Reef National Park is better known as Cathedral Valley and is famous for monolithic cathedrals of Sandstone that rise hundreds of feet into the sky. Diverse geological wonders abound throughout the different sections of the valley, keeping first time visitors on the edge of their seat.
Early in the tour we cross the Fremont River at “River Ford” on our way to the amazing mars-like landscape of the Bentonite Hills. Trip highlights are dispersed throughout the tour allowing for constant photo opportunities and interaction with your knowledgeable guide. Lava fins, temples, hoodoos, crystal formations, canyons, and wildlife make this a tour of epic proportions of which you are sure to enjoy!
If you only have one day in the park and don't want to focus on hiking, this 4WD offroad sight-seeing tour is a must!!!

Suitable for all physical fitness levels
The vehicle used for the tour has 4 regular, adult sized seats and 2 small, child sized seats. Therefore, we can accomodate up to 4 adults and 2 childern for 6 passengers maximum. 1 adult and 5 children would also work.
This offroading tour involves rough, bumpy roads that are not recommended for anyone wanting to avoid being jostled around. Pregnant travelers and those with back problems must use their own discretion.

Travelers will see the Cathedral Valley district of Capitol Reef National Park, where we will visit highlights including the Temples of the Sun & Moon, Cinderella's Castle & Upper Cathedrals Overlook, the Walls of Jericho & Gypsum Sinkhole, the Bentonite Hills & Petrified Forest, Cathedral River Ford Crossing, Glass Mountain, Black Mountain & Glass Mines, Jailhouse Rock and South Desert Overlook, Stegosaurus Rock and Lava Fins. Stops to see dinosaur bones, petroglyphs, the M.A.R.S. Research Station, or the famous moonscapes are also possible. Snacks, water, and gourmet picnic lunch tailored to preference will also be provided.
See this amazing lunar landscape for yourself while you get away from the crowded pavement and chaos. Fording the Fremont River keeps most from reaching the Bentonite Hills near Cathedral Valley, which can require high clearance 4×4 vehicles. Photographers and drone enthusiasts will have plenty of time to capture stunning shots in every direction.

5.00We did two tours with Capital Reef Outfitters and our guide Ray. Day one was the Waterpocket Fold and day two was Cathedral Valley. Both tours were exceptional and exceeded our expectations. Ray is fantastic, knowledgeable guide and we really enjoyed spending both days with him. We booked direct with the Outfitters and the process was simple. The owner, Sean, responded promptly to any questions we had pertaining to the tours prior to our visit to the area and it was great to meet him in person. We highly recommend Capital Reef Outfitters.

5.00Wayne was an excellent gulde; he was very knowledgeable and we saw several areas and artifacts we would not have seen on our own. We even saw a wonderful moonrise. We had ample time at stops and several stops were answers to our interests.

5.00We did the full day tour of cathedral valley. It was amazing and our guide, Kevin, was wonderful. He was so knowledgeable and our whole family learned so much. Kevin pointed us toward some amazing photo opportunities and shared local history spots as well. I would 100% recommend this to anyone planning a trip to Capitol Reef. After having experienced it I would not have wanted to do it on my own even with a proper vehicle and we would have missed out on everything we learned along the way.

5.00Wonderful guide Ray took us to spots we never would have seen on our own. We learned a lot about the geological diversity and how things were formed, ate a wonderful lunch, took so many cool pictures, and thoroughly enjoyed a very memorable day of stories, pie and adventure. We highly recommend this tour for all ages!

5.00Like any national park, they draw a lot of people. You can cattle car through the chutes and drive the same routes everyone else does or you can get your adventure pants on and take this tour! Our operator Ray was great! We enjoyed our whole day in his company. We learned things about history, about science, about geology and tons of fun facts. The vehicle was very comfortable, we stopped at numerous points and saw some very beautiful things in the back country that you would not know was there without a tour like this. We had a nice picnic on a mountain top, we enjoyed the solitude of the landscape being far less travelled. There were more than national park interests included in our tour and it was just an incredible way to enjoy the day and this park. Highly recommend this for anyone who likes things a little less traditional.
